Firmware 2.4.80 released - report bugs here

Post by exelletor »

Archos 35 home connect product support
Archos 35 smart home phone product support

http://update.archos.com/8/gen8/gen8_2. ... d_gen8.aos

Looks like there is nothing new for us this time. However knowing Archos there can be some new features and bugs, we never know. :) OTA update request appeared on my Gen8, downloading it now.

I'll give it a try, don't have much to lose right now since I'm nearly ready to put the SDK on it and go way back to the beginning.

A70IT 8GB, (+8GB SD class 6, removed for 2 days now) OTA updated, it was a fast download, fast install, no errors/alerts/halts/reboot loops, all OK.

Battery: have no idea, just installed :)
I'm @ 100% on charger and I will unplug it over night just to see how much it drops.

Market just updated 3.3.11, still can't see my device on web market... don't know why. BDW, market is working faster than before.
After market update 7 updated just popped up for installed apps. Downloading now...

Updated apps:
Angry birds, just downloading update, for the record, was working as before on this firmware. Not so smooth animations while ads are loading. Unlike those older firmwares... Tested updated, better than before but not smooth.

Google reader, finally I can swipe left/right to throughout feed content.
Skype, same old. Asked me to enable video calling, just like the first run. Restarted skype, now it starts faster.Video works...

Have tried to get the home screen delay but don't. It was a major issue. Dolphin HD loads up faster. Will test all my software and moviess and see how things are. So far this update even though they don't list much seems to be well worth the download.

Ok, forgot last night to unplug, but this morning I did.
~1% down in deep sleep, no SD card. Compared to .65 huge difference.

I'm not risking installing this one since there were so many bad reports on the .65 release. It looks like .80 does not address any of those issues according to the change log:

A70 hard drive based devices: fix unit loosing mass storage happening sometimes on recent models
Accelerometer: apply calibration right away without requiring a reboot to take effect
PTP: fix USB host camera support

Version 2.4.19 - August 18th, 2011

I've used a bit my tablet just to check market updates, some twitter... dropped ~7% total from this morning since I unplugged it. No SD card WiFi On, deep sleep.
Update, no wake up/sleep locks can't make it to turn off green light by short pressing PW btn.

The following bugs are still present:

- When you let the screen time out, you can bring it back to life by just touching the screen. Deep sleep enabled, but it happens only if you keep the tablet busy(ex: with playing music)
- Some applications take long time to start up. (ex: 2 seconds to see the icon highlighted)
- In the dutch translation, in the music carousel "Alles albums" should be "Alle albums". Very annoying to me.

I have a 43IT Board 5.

I took the fast followup of the release to be implicit recognition that they had to fix some bugs they introduced. It is in the nature of programmers to not want to highlight their mistakes, but pay their dues by fixing it fast. It is too late in the product life to expect such rapid updates simply for enhancements.

My a70 seems to have no more problems and it only dropped 2% charge by playing music for 35min then going to sleep all night. But I haven't tried exotic stuff. BTW it looks like the last flash version was just released. 11.1 is supposed to be the end of the line forever (barring minor bug fixes). It worked for me.

It did not fix my issue of playing files transferred using the HD transfer tool, which broke in 2.4.65. Plays all other files on my SD card.

Can you play UPNP media? SMB?
What kind of files are those that you can play? Audio/Video codecs used, bit rates... And those that you can't?

The codec or container does not matter. The files play fine via smb, but not when transferred to the SD card using the HD Transfer tool (files over 4gb).

Videos still quit playing before the end for me, losing somewhere between 3 and 10 seconds.

(1)Bluetooth tethering from my 3g phone works very well. It used to be hit or miss, now it connects everytimes. But it cannot stream videos on youtube when tethering (both the Market version app and the Stock version app), Error message "There is no network connection right now. Please try again later. Touch to retry". Also some online video apps too, no streaming on tethering, but not all of them. Google voice search too, "connection problem".

It seems some programs don't see the tethering as a connection. It didn't have that problem before., Programs that have problems now, Bloomberg, Youtube, Google Voice Search.

(2)Video silent mode is now fixed.
(3) Still no voice input & output setting by default.

OTA update went smoothly. Battery meter now shows up to 100% when charging but quickly slides down to mid-90s after about 5 minutes of use. Only lost 1% overnight after waking from deep sleep. Still has to observe general battery performance though, which was my only problem with 2.4.65.

Not much difference for me between this and the previous. Still as snappy.
Thanks Archos for continuing on giving updates/fixes.

Update was fast and ok, freshly initialized the system.

Sadly, it didn't solve my graphical problem that once in a while blue stipes or a blue-ish layer appears on the screen. Like as if it uses a bad graphical driver. (101IT-G8)
