Re: Oops - no 3G functionality after all?

But you also should remember that a third party radio (that is: one not produced by Archos) might not work in any Gen9 device.
For a USB cell modem to work Android needs drives that support that modems chipset, and Archos most probably only included the drivers needed for their modems.

And while ...

Re: Oops - no 3G functionality after all?

With or without official Archos 3G in the US, it will be useful info among ArchosFans users/readers to know which USB cell modems from the various carriers fit in the USB slot for it. Some of these will be running 4G LTE instead of 3G anyway, since carriers are rolling that out right now.

Re: Device keeps powering istself on

It will process automatic alarms and updates if allowed to drop into normal sleep. One of the shutdown options "deep sleep" is for when you intend to disable that behavior without completely turning it off. Other options... turn off alarms and turn off Settings->Accounts & Sync->Auto Sync when you ...

For those who don't want to open the case or use superglue, go to a hardware store and get some Velcro tabs and strips like this. I posted the photo on Twitpic: http://twitter.com/KO6YQ/status/41673631964733440

Gen8 tablet action shots

I took this "action shot" of my A70 in use yesterday. http://ian.kluft.com/pics/utah/canyonlands-20101227/img_3954sc.jpg

The A70 is displaying a PDF document of the US National Park Service's brochure about the Upheaval Dome impact crater at Canyonlands National Park in Utah. And in the background ...

We should make a page on the wiki from this content. Though the same goes for just about any how-to info.

Re: Bluetooth GPS

I know that enabling mock locations is something that previously had to be done to get a Bluetooth GPS to work with Archos Gen8 devices. But the meaning of "mock" locations indicates the problem with it. It's a testing mode. It's not intended for real use. When mock locations are on, it interferes ...

Re: Firmware 2.0.71 released, report bugs here

For the WiFi error bug, I ran into that just after the 2.0.71 firmware upgrade. I ended up disabling WiFi Fixer (which I installed to work around the WPA2 disconnect bug with 2.0.54.) The WiFi Fixer app seems to get into a loop resetting the WiFi again while it's still coming back from the previous ...

Bluetooth GPS

This topic was in the A101 forum asking about Bluetooth GPS. http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=44115

In response, I added a wiki page with instructions to use a Bluetooth GPS with a Gen8 Froyo. http://wiki.archosfans.com/index.php?title=Gen8_Bluetooth_GPS

But I'm posting a pointer ...

Re: Gps Bluetooth Problem

Steps to get a Bluetooth GPS to work with an Archos Gen8 2.0.71 Froyo firmware:

Turn on the GPS.
Select Settings->Wireless & Networks->Bluetooth Settings->Scan for devices
The GPS should show up on the list - select it for pairing.
Pair to the GPS like any Bluetooth device. It will prompt for ...

Re: A43 touchscreen has gone CRAZY! and only have 1 day for

Remember there's a reason why a resistive touchscreen is less expensive than a capacitive touchscreen. Sometimes there are glitches. And it just isn't as precise.

I suspect that things going berserk as you described would be something in the software, possibly a side effect of an error in an app ...

Re: http://wiki.archosfans.com - infos, Q&As, FAQs, tutorial

Also, no one working on the Gen8 pages realized that Archos produces devices other than Android and hence did not include the Android Category on their pages.

Actually, I did. The thing to remember is that categories should be thought of as a hierarchy. So when I added the Generation 8 category ...

Someone created a wiki page specifically for kenyu73's gAppsInstaller. So I made redlinks ...

These devices are apparently popular. Whenever @Archos_US posts on Twitter that some are in stock, many here have observed that it only lasts some hours each time. Re: Random Slight Snapping Sound

Besides the kickstand arm, in a quiet environment the volume up/down rocker switch can also make a slight rattle if the device is shaken, or at times when the device is moved between various positions. Other than those very minor things, I've found the A70 to be quite solid.
