Firmware 2.0.71 released, report bugs here

Since 2.0.71 update, my A70it has had frequent "won't wake from sleep" spells (every other day or so)... Only responds to 10 second power press and then one more press to reboot.

I have seen this occasionally too.

Count me as number 11 on the wifi error bug.3 error reports in the last 24 hours.Reboot corrects the problem for now.

For the WiFi error bug, I ran into that just after the 2.0.71 firmware upgrade. I ended up disabling WiFi Fixer (which I installed to work around the WPA2 disconnect bug with 2.0.54.) The WiFi Fixer app seems to get into a loop resetting the WiFi again while it's still coming back from the previous reset. If you allow that loop to proceed too many times, it will eventually mess up the WiFi on the Archos so that the status says "error" and needs a reboot to fix it.

Is that possibly the same thing others are running into?

Okay I just had another wifi error that three reboots failed to correct.After the third reboot I enabled airplane mode, rebooted and when I turned off airplane mode the wifi was fixed.Perhaps it was just a coincidence.Will try this at each power down or deep sleep and see if the error reoccurs.

Like others, after installing the new firmware I've had loads of little errors, i.e. device not waking from sleep, having to wait a an extra half minute after rebooting whilst the media library updates - I'm actually scared to do anything during this period, even rotate the screen as it might crash. also I've had random software freezes, and software failing to load requiring a restart.

I had this odd problem where if the Less than 15% battery reamining window was still on the screen when I attached the power cable it would freeze only to be rectified by removing the power cable (tablet still forzen) waiting for the message to appear again and tapping ok to remove the message /then/ reattaching the power cable.

Another weird bug is that a lot of music wont open from the media libraries of either the stock music player or 3rd party ones (e.g. winamp) I get a message along the lines of "Audio format not supported", but if I open the tracks from browsing a file explorer they open just fine o_O So it is supported just not when opened from the library. Another thing with the music player is that the widget never displays any information, i.e. last tracks played, recently added etc... nada. Just sits there displaying my current track, or nothing if I'm not listening to anything.

Random question: Does this device have a photo gallery? I sort of found one but the only way I can access it is if I add a photo frame to my desktop. Isthere a way to access that same gallery for just browsing through pictures?

two issues

1 Old:
UPNP still won't list files over 2gb in size. this kinda cripples UPNP.

1 New:
When playing from UPNP and backing out to the first video screen the Video app FCs almost all the time.

Confirmed UPNP won't show mkv's over 2GB. I hope this goes into Archos' backlog. I spent awhile trying to figure out why my files weren't showing up, tried to recompile ushare for linux, running wireshark to trace the UPnP traffic. Luckily for me SMB works decently.

I've got an Archos 32, and recently upgraded to 2.0.71. When I go to Settings | About Device it confirms that my firmware version is 2.0.71. However, I do not have the "Power Management" button in the "About Device" as the posts have indicated. I upgraded from 2.0.54 by dragging the firmware to the root. The device automatically lead me through the update. I did not do a format and install because I'd rather not have to reinstall all my apps.

Any thoughts as to why I don't have the "power management" option and how to fix this issue?

You're not the first person to report that the 32 does not have a power management setting. Looking at the stat page for the 32 it shows the 32 has an 800 mhz processor which is what everything was set to in the .54 firmware, so on the 32 your max CPU speed was never restricted. Since your system runs at 800 mhz normally there was no reason for power management on your system.

So far enabling airplane mode before powering off or deep sleep has stopped my wifi error problem completely.Could the reason for these errors be due to the Gen8's long boot times with the newest firmware.I suspect their is something causing the wifi to "time out" during the extremely long boot times.Anyone else think this could be it?

Not really sure what you consider "extremely long boot time", but my A101 (on the newest firmware) boots in ~35 seconds. It actually boots up faster than my EVO does.

How long is yours taking to boot? Maybe you have something starting on boot that's delaying the rest of the process.

I timed my 101. It takes 34-35 seconds to get to the homescreen and 65 seconds until the "updating photo thumbnails" is complete.I cannot figure out why simply disabling wifi before shutdown solves the error issues.Doesn't it stand to reason that there is a conflict which only occurs at startup causing these issues? Perhaps there IS an app causing this and if so which one?I will compile a list of what I have installed and post it here.If others do the same we may identify the culprit.

List of all apps I have installed:Angry Birds,Angry Birds Seasons,Apps2SD,Astro,Bookmarks to SD,Dolphin Browser Mini,Market (v2),Memory Booster Lite,Superuser,Messenger (Yahoo),Terminal Emulator,Weather Bug,Youtube.

Can some of these be attempting to update before a connection is made by wifi?
That is probably to simple though.Just a guess on my part.

According to the release notes for the 2.0.71 firmware, the Power Management option is only for the 43, 70, and 101.

Hey Guys,

I received my A70 250gb yesterday and everything was great on it, until an hour after i updated to Froyo. The screen resolution seems to have decreased and i see some stuttering in some areas. Has anyone had this same issue and is there a fix?
I'll post pictures or a video to show details of the problem if needed.

Just want to give my feedback about the last firmware upgrade to 2.0.71. I own an Archos 70/8GB.
I upgraded from 2.0.54 to 2.0.71 and I can say it's much faster. This is the good part.
The bad part is that it's crashing all the time, after a long sleep (as many are saying) I must reset, sometimes the touchscreen seems not responding anymore. Also I cannot access windows share anymore. Sometimes it's completely freezing and need a reset. Sometimes it cannot connect to wifi anymore, need also a reset.
I did a format and installed it fully fresh, but problems are the same.

I can say that I would give anything to go back to the firmware 2.0.54, slower maybe, but much more stable for me. I was feeling my tablet is very useful. Today with the 2.0.71 I feel like I have a completely useless toy, cannot use it to watch a movie, need to wait 2 minutes everytime I want to use it because it just crashed. So sad

Also it seems not possible to downgrade to 2.0.54 even with a format, how come?
Looking forward to have a new firmware upgrade soon... now i'm really thinking to sell it to buy another brand if there is no upgrade and still all the problems.

Just updated. Set to overdrive and everything is smoother! Did a quadrant test and mine ranked hihhest above nexus 2.2! Kudos to archos!
