Where did it all go wrong?

First time in a few years of looking on here and hardly any posts... Where did it all go wrong for Archos or are they still a contender?

Warning...firmware update

Updated the firmware on my 70 250 gb last night. Was watching a video this morning and it started to play in slow motion. Was able to stop it and return to home page. Went for a reboot but unit will not switch off. Has been trying now for about 20 minutes to switch off. Looks like I now have got a b...

Re: Archos tv+ hard drive upgrades now available.

Hi, my trusty ole tv plus hard drive has passed away. From what I understand I need to buy a replacement hard drive but the serial numbers need to match up. I have tried to purchase a hard drive from a link that was on here that is based in the USA but the company have not replied. Do I only need to...

Re: To Jaffar: How can we best help Archos?

When the AV500 came out I had a total of 3 of them because of various faults then gave up on it, I'm now on my third Archos 5 because of stuck pixels, Fat32 errors and still video and voice sync issues but I have never had to return any of my Apple products! Even my second hand iPhone looks and wor...

Re: To Jaffar: How can we best help Archos?

bmn please shut the hell up... Anyway Archos' quality has not been reduced lately. You seem to believe that all other company's products ALWAYS work. The thing you miss is that most of the people on this forum are on it because or discovered it because they have/had a problem with an Archos product...

Re: To Jaffar: How can we best help Archos?

What I would like to know is how comes Archos have gone from building good realiable devices to units that now ship with beta sof...

but with all the paintwork coming off the 5's the reflection must surely be off putting . Perhaps archos should ship em with free shades

Re: Metalwork corroding

Thats up to you, I know for a fact that if i paid $50's or $400's I would expect whatever I had bought to still look new after only a couple of weeks/months. If i damaged it myself then thats my fault but if anything else was wrong with it then thats down to manafacture.

Re: Metalwork corroding

Fair comment don, i agree looks dont last but come on even you have got to agree the looks should last longer than a couple of weeks/months. People with units with dodgy paint have basically got a product that when the time comes to sell it on, will struggle due to the fact that its going to look aw...

Re: Metalwork corroding

They should have just gone with anodized aluminum, but hey that's just me thinking. I have a few weak spots on my 60GB and scratches on the back. Guess what? It's showing wear because I use it. If I wanted to keep it pristine I would have framed it. Guess what? It's showing wear because I use it. I...

Re: Metalwork corroding

2 weeks with 250gb version purchased from qvc and the unit is starting to discolour/tarnish in various places around the screen. I've been using a tuff-luv case from the beginning. Will give it another week or so and see how it goes. Its all part of the Archos experience, get some cling film on it

Re: Metalwork corroding

The do-it-yourself "Cling Wrap" shield is done! 1. Final wipe with the Archos cloth on front and back to remove any trace of fingerprints. 2. Cut a piece of "cling wrap" large enough to entirely cover the player front and back. 3. Lay the cling wrap on a soft cotton wash cloth. ...

Re: Extended Battery from NewMP3Technology expanded and split!

The trick is to put the battery onto the player and then pull back towards the outer casing to click it in securely, I have used my battery a good few times on long haul and have had no problems of it exploding yet

Re: changing bitrate for recording

If its like the other archos units you need to click on options when the player is docked and in record mode and I think it says something like screen options, click on that and your see bitrates towards the bottom of the options
