I completely agree with Hadakajime. To me this is more a Gen 4.5 rather than a true new generation of devices. The new features are not enough to think of upgrading, this new devices even lack the "wow" factor that Gen4 had at the start.

Forget it, Archos support to Gen 4 is no more, as Gen 5 is here in a couple of weeks.

The US Archos store is running a promotion where you can buy both the Cinerama and Video Podcast plugins for $30. That's around 11 GBP at the present pound to dollar rate. This is obviously much cheaper than having to buy them separately at 20 Euro each. I do not know why Archos only has an offer ...

On a roadmap from archos we saw, not long ago, a mention to GPS. I suppose they will include that in G5. That alone would be a fairly good reason to upgrade from G4....the Cowon will offer it as well so i bet that Archos will have some external add-on with GPS.

The best advise would be this: take a look around in this forum, and learn about all pros and cons of this device. I'm a happy 604 wifi owner, i love the device as it does everything it promises. However, if the reviews of this thing are good, i'm most likely exchanging the 604 for the Q5. It offers a lot more than the Archos product, or so it seems, so i only need to be sure that it will not be a buggy brick ...

Archos tech support is farmed out to a support company, like a sub-contractor.

I have had great luck with Archos support. Someone there named Tim S. has provided me direct answers that solved my issues immediately.

Well, i just returned home yesterday for the weekend and i had still the same problem, as expected. Then, still with the 604 out, i unplugged the SW cable, and sort of a magic thing the TV image and sound suddnely appeared ! I could see TV perfectly well.

But listen, i tried and plugged it back ...

That's a bummer that they've gone back down to 256,000 colors. Maybe they just gave up with the depth of the 504 display since they've had so much difficulty with ghosting or washed out colors.
