Opera upgrade

Post by Sandyg »

Has anyone upgraded the Opera browser on the 704?
Or, does anyone know of a "web" messenger that will IM with Yahoo Messenger? I have tried eBuddy, but not very successful.

My guess is that Archos will provide any Opera update via new firmware. I was expecting such an update myself.. It'll be interesting to see if it does in fact manifest..javascript:emoticon(':)')

Forget it, Archos support to Gen 4 is no more, as Gen 5 is here in a couple of weeks.

I hope not! The 704 is only a few months old... And I for one have just got mine!!! I┬┤m really happy with my 704 but if Archos just move on with Gen.5`s and forget all about the Gen.4┬┤s I┬┤ll for sure be a non Archos buyer in the future!

You can use IM via a couple websites that help - see www.604wifi.com

The worst thing for me is the inability to set a proxy server for Web access! This means I can't use it on the majority of business wi-fi networls. You'd think it'd be pretty easy to implement.

This may sound ignorrant, but I am in agreement with the user that stated the 704 just came out. They are already coming out with a model that supports flash? There is no reason the current 704's in circulation could not recieve an update to play flash files and videos. This doesn't really seem like a new generation, but more or less trying to suck money out of consumers at a record pace. As stated the 704 4th generations are jsut out and they are already coming out with 5th??? The only thing that really interest me in the 5th generation anyhow is the ability to play flash files (hopefully th greed doesn't take over and there is a plug-in for current 704's).

Does anyone with a technical background, and basic knowledge of the 704's OS, (and perhaps this version of Opera) know for a fact that it will never be possible to upgrade the 704 so that it does play flash files, and internet video (such as those off of youtube for instance)?? I mean is it really technically impossible for such an upgrade to be developed? I've heard comments which infer so much, but no one with the technical background to really know what they are talking about has directly stated this. Thanks.

I've been told a few times that this isn't really that hard to do. Was also told that if they can have add on's for VOB's, h264's, etc. that it would be just as easy for flash. Not sure how much can be looked into that though. THe people I talked to are pretty computer savy, so I trust them, but still not my own words.
