Archos Users Portal is on-line!

Hi everybody,
The beta version of the Archos User's Portal is on-line.

English Global portal:

French Portal:
http://www.darksouls.org/aupfr

I setup a site in php+mysql.

It's a link manager with a special interface made for the Archos resolution, also the navigation has been designed keeping in mind usability and to be used in a touch device so only needs 2-3 clicks to go where you want.

I will not host any game or apps that can be used from hard disk, so this is a different project than the french one:

(if someone can translate that Archos Launcher to english could be cool too )

For the moment there are only a few links for testing purposes.

I need some colaboration from you, i can give access to the "submit new link form" to anyone who wants to colaborate. Only tested links.

The roles for each type of user is:
- Users: access to the portal and submit links
- Colaborators & Admin (me): access, submit and aproval of links

For the moment the purpose of each main category is as follows:

WEB: links to useful webs, webs that you probably surf each day, as your search engine, your webmail or your favorite news site.
Current subcategories: Search Engines, E-Mail, Archos and Spanish

Games: links to web games, flash or not. If posible direct link for each game, not just a page with games. Only tested games.

Apps: links to web applications, flash or not. If posible direct link for each application, not just a page with apps. Only tested apps.

TV: direct links to live streaming of TV (not links to videos)
Current subcategories: News, Music, Sport, Spanish, French

Radio: direct links to live radio (not links to music files)

Video: links to webpages of free videos in streaming or to download. Not direct links to videos.
Current subcategories:
Movie Trailers: direct links to trailers or to webs with trailers
Game Trailers: direct links to game trailers or to webs with game trailers

Music: links to webpages of free music, not direct links to music.

I can create any number of subcategories, so i accept ideas

Bel...this is awesome. I'm very impressed with the time and effort you've put in.

A minor note: a while back, there was a question of whether tv-links works. My sense is that it *does*, when the original hosting site is also viewable (e.g., Veoh, DailyMotion, etc.). So when the links are not dead at tv-links and the site is one you could otherwise get to work by going directly, the videos do stream. Could you try it yourself, and consider adding if you can get it to work?

If you could provide a french and other languages by top left corner country flags for example, and if you can manage to rememnber people's preferences through cookies, this way your portal would become well suited internationally and the french community can directly come and help make it better.

Do you actually count the number of times people click on each link? Maybe if you had people log-in with their accounts, this would provide a way to count ratings and this way provide a personalised recommendations list for each user such as "people who liked this content also liked this".

I probably can provide a rating system.
But language selection + links for each community could be more difficult.

I can add categories for each language. Also i will try a work around for the language...making a link for the French version of the portal, the spanish version of the portal, etc.

Yup if you can clearly separate the French version for example simply on a different URL I guess is OK, then I think some of the many users of cajl's http://jbmm.fr/forum/ and Nastyatak's http://archoslounge.net/forum/ forums will probably be happy to sign up with you as Collaborators in the French version.

How about an "Add a link" field visible to everyone with a drop-down menu to choose the category it should be added in. And eigther somekind of system to have it being verified by Collaborators before it being added to the public version of the site or simply by a bunch of verified users if every user can login.

Your portal could quickly become huge and everyones favorite to be used as homepage.

That feature it's ready yet is what i use with the collaborators (moontan & r0bot). But it's not a add a link field its a hidden URL, but i can made it avalaible to everyone. But that means too much work for collaborator too. I think if we can have a team of collaborators that link could be visible.

I'm currently working in this new features, the button france from the home will be removed.

A drop down list is good idea.
