Firmware upgrade failed. Is this the right model/version?

I have an Archos 101 internet tablet. That's a G9, right?

From the firmware download page I selected Gen9 in the drop-down list, downloaded the OS 4.0.28, put the file in my tablet's root folder, then opened it with the 'files' application. It checked the file for a while, then a message appeared "this firmware is not for this device". Then I tried downloading the Gen10 but same thing happened. Am I really choosing the wrong model?

In the back of my tablet it says: "Model number: 8000" next to a label "A101IT"

How can I know if mine is a gen8 or gen9?

Gen 9 had a door on the back to insert a usb thumb drive or something. You can probably find pictures in this forum, as well as confirm the latest firmware version in the discussions there. I don't know anything about gen 10, but don't you want to turn the tablet off then on to boot up new firmware? Going into files with it may not do the right thing.

You may get more lists of firmware by scanning the ftp.archos.com or whatever site directly. Sometimes you must choose a later version than what you have installed already.
