Hi guys,
7 months since the last post in this room, whats going on.
Is it me or has the board become very very quiet over the last year or so?
I dont think it helps that i currently dont have a working archos (android) unit.
Are you guys still using archos now or have you moved on?

Maybe we need a fresh look with some videos etc now?
wadda think nick?

My gen8 a70 will never die, and is the only device where my 64gb card doesn't drive the media scan crazy (I also have all 4 samsung galaxy players... refurbs). My freebie archos 101 is still useable for some things that aren't affected by the edges of the screen issuing false touches (mostly at startup time). My Arnova 101 makes a good e-reader if nothing else.

Most of my serious work is on a voyo a15 (or whatever the chinese mailorder 11.5 inch android tablet that was suggested here is called). It's pretty good, but I hardly hear of it. Also I just picked up a refurbished 22 inch acer android desktop workstation for hardly more than $200.

I need some tablet to die to free up a 10 MAC address wifi router constraint! Oh, I would have bought the 14" Archos tablet but for the reports it had a variable MAC address. Maybe I can turn off MAC address filtering with a newer router with higher security.

only 10 devices!! my network was crippled a couple of weeks ago as my old router (cisco ea5600) really couldnt handle the amount of data flow. Ive got a netgear nighthawk (r7000), and its like night and day!!

ohhh i just realised ive got 23 wireless devices and 16 wired devices on my network. im not suprised thinking about it that the ea5600 decided to commit suicide.
With my plex network, and my tivos streaming its under a lot of loads....
Ive not used mac filtering for a while, i didnt need it as i live in a very quiet wifi area, ive not noticed any incursions to my network and all my devices are pretty secure, my nas drive does have a mac filter on so only my server can access that - being a mac mini thats where i also download all the new material to the nas, or remotely connect from my mbp.
My isp hates me with my data usage now lmao..

Sadly my last archos (101) the freebee died, and refused to take a charge, im sure its the usb port, but cannot really be bothered to take it to pieces as i have the nexus and now aging note 2. Both of these machines are fantastic - the note 2 has been a real work horse and hasnt missed a beat.
Im waiting for the note 4 now so i can retire the note to - to the wife.

Ive just started to play with the chromecast, i love the simplicity of the device, but really wish they could do a "sonos" with the thing, with sonos you can have whole house music streams, but there is no support for google music (my chosen service) and its app is really clunky, if they could add a sonos cast like chrome cast then i think i would be happy.
Im hoping google will do something like that now, wireless speakers that you can chromecast to, maybe using the mesh network to stop wireless overloads, and at google prices - that would be coooool, and also not stupid "D" class amps that sonos uses....

I know it's been a while, so Hello everyone!

I've been all over the place, and have been using tons of different devices. I currently don't have any more Archos devices left unfortunately.

The GamePad 2 and the ArcBook look interesting though. I just need to find a way to get them to the US. I'm thinking about using the ArcBook for my son and the GamePad 2 for myself for emulators.

How's everyone been? Any news or thoughts about the current state of Archos? It's been silent in the US.

Hmm, I wish I got the 14" archos tablet now that it's mac address issue no longer affects me. Instead I got a 22" all in one android thingie which requires sitting on a table, but I prefer the flexibility of (large) handheld screens. Well, here I will inventory my stuff that started with archos:

archos (1) clipper... died, replaced with -> sansa clip, sansa clip+ (now crippled), sansa clip+
archos 3cam... comatose, now repurposed as thumb drive
archos 5 w/o android... died, replaced with archos 7 gen8 ( just now showing signs of dying battery)
arnova 10g2... not too functional, replaced with archos 101g9 whose touchy screen can send me back to arnova.

I don't have any smartphone, so instead use refurbs of samsung galaxy player 3.6, 4.0, 4.2, 5.0. Like I said I am happy with the powerful chinatab voyo a15, but it's 11.5 screen is small and has me wishing for archos's 14". My oddball 22" partly depends on my crippled a101g9 for sideloading because it has the same exact version of android, and the 22" is blacklisted for many apps since it has no portrait mode.

The other drama came from my dying a5 apparently shorting out the usb ports on my apple 17" laptop... I recently saw apple dropped the price of macairs by $100 and picked up a refurb. I should have purchased it via an airline site; they are about to expire half my "miles" and would have refreshed them if I bought for the same price thru them. Anyway, with no devices left with lan ports, I picked up a lan-usb adaptor for a song - cool! Good for wifi emergencies, and gets around the problem of relaying internet radio to bluetooth... usually won't work because wifi reception interferes with bluetooth broadcasts on cheap devices.

Above is in context of extreme wifi density here - couple dozen strong signals on each channel plus overlaps. My devices seem in constant interference mode with dropouts every couple seconds (maybe when nearby elevator motor loads up?). Anyway I will give a try to the new but cheap (paste:) Netis Wireless AC750 All-in-One Dual Band Router Repeater Client with Triple 5 dBi High Gain Antennas (WF2710).

P.S. I look forward to rumored android app for tunein radio. Tunein stinks, except for it's radio which is almost as good as spotify. On my mac right now, I have it playing while a doubletwist app records songs along with metadata.
