Start USB MSC? I don't recall that ever being the option in recovery. And nothing should have touched recovery unless you've been really hacking into the recovery partition as it is completely separate from the OS partition.
I have rooted my tablet so it has SDE recovery menu options (Special Developer Edition) so it has changed things around. There is an option under Developer Edition Menu to Export Data Partition. But you'll need to be running linux or have one of those programs on windows to be able to read ext3 partitions.

Read this guide on how to install unofficial SDE. It is the very first grey section. link to zip file is at bottom of that section

Are you stuck in the standard recovery or the Developer Edition recovery?
I would really ask your question over in the XDA Archos forums as the gen9 section here is dead. XDA is more active. You'll need to be descriptive in your problem to give people a better idea of what is going on.

Hi. I have the same problem. My device doesn't turn on.
I would like to contact Archos customer service for warranty. When they ask to register my tablet I can't, because I don't know it's product key. It can be read out from the menu, but in my case it's not an option.
Do you have any ideas?
