Why, nearly every time I start my 605 does the OS need to go through this procedure? Even before I upgraded to a 250 gb hard drive the 605 did this. I would think that if no changes have been made to the current library this would not be necessary. Is there any way to shut this function off except when content is changed?

In menu>system, what is your USB Preference set at? I really have no idea, but wondering if being set to 'PC Hard Drive (auto-ARCLib)' mode would possibly cause this issue. Probably not, but it's all I can think of. Try setting it to plain old 'PC Hard Drive' mode.

This seems to have helped. Mainly to keep from killing my battery, and also this problem was deleting info from the Music list when accessed by the OS. In other words the ARC Library Update sometimes would not run completely and this would cause a lot of music to not be listed in the music library. Although the missing music was listed (but could be accessed) in the Files directory. So now when I add music or change files I will run the ARC Update manually.

It's hard to get help here with these older models like we have because most folks have moved on. So I just took a wild guess, LOL.
Don't know how many items you have in your ARCLibrary, but I vaguely remember a hard limit for that. It's like 35 thousand. Not sure what happens if you go over the limit.
