Cannot find Encrypton Option

Post by AndyCon »

I have had my G9 Turbo for a year without any problems until just before Christmas when I blindly did a load of app and a firmware updates. I had updated once before during the year to go from Android 3 to 4.
I am on 4.0.4 and Firmware 4.0.25.
I have three problems now which all may be related:

It does not find any updates of Firmware when I ask it to look, so can not get 4.0.26

In the security setting the option to encypt the device is not there. This is a problem because it needs to be encrypted to run work email software which it did without problems before I did these updates.

The Airwatch app (used by work to check the tablet before it allows work email access) is saying the tablet is jailbreaked/rooted which it is not, well actually I have no idea what this means but I have not done anything and all the apps come through google play.

Grateful for any help.

On the charging issue people have with the unit my stopped charging so I stopped using the Archos USB cable and now use a Nokia one without any prolems

Not tried this.

Can someone please have a look for the option to encypt in 4.0.25 and or 4.0.26.
It should be in Settings/Security

Thanks

I looked up encryption, set a lock-screen password, rebooted, but no encryption options show up.
I looked in security and storage also, nothing.

be glad that you cannot upgrade to 4.0.26. It has made my device far less responsive. Only the very early releases of the firmware allowes encryption; if you have not upgraded to 4.0.25 or 4.0.26, you should be able to downgrade back to a release that supports device encryption.

While there a number of people that 'claim' 4.0.26 works just fine for them... those are mainly people with the newer Turbo models with 1GB RAM. And, most of those people just don't use all the features/functions so that are simply not noticing the large number of other small bugs that are in 4.0.26 (I do some real serious full testing of everything and I know it has a bunch of flaws above and beyond what you are noticing).

As far as going back to earlier firmware... From various things I've been reading over on xda-developers I was wrong in my other post about being able to go back as long as you stayed within any certain major firmware release. There were only certain 'test' versions of 4.0.x that would let you go back to an earlier 4.0.x, and only a certain combination of those 'test' versions and/or specific 4.0.x combined with a specific 3.2.80-2 firmware would allow you to get back to 3.2.80.

In other words, except for one certain case with 4.0.x, there has never been any way to go back from any "official" Archos firmware to any previous version after they changed to ICS (only a few of the Honeycomb releases would allow it).

Anyway, except for a few people that 'claim' 4.0.26 works for them... just about all the rest of us already know it is crap. Over 2 months and we're still waiting for newer firmware!

Thanks for the responses good to know their firmware updates are really helpful :(

So if I follow it properly even if I do a factory reset and wipe the tablet I cannot install a firmware previous to 4.0.25 which did support encryption. If I could where do I find the older firmware files.

Thanks

First of all, the XDA forum Archos area is the place to get more help probably.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=875

There is a thread with links to all firmwares. Modded and stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1468925

A good howto thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1871912

I have had problems going from 4.0.26 to 4.0.7, specifically I can't access/transfer files over USB anymore (well, aside from via ADB). 3.2.80 is more laggy than 4.0.26 for me but it is functional. I haven't tried other versions.

I've an Archos G9 Turbo 250HD and there where never a menu entry for encrypting the device. I guess Archos has disabled this feature for all G9 versions ...
