Can you get sim-only 3G in the US? The 3G stick is just a standard 3G dongle that takes a standard 3G sim.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance over USA carriers, but the dongle is GSM only. I think this means it will only work on AT&T or some local carriers.

I would guess that this is the reason it is not generally available your side of the pond, but you could always get one shipped from Europe.

The actual 3G Stick from Archos is set up to only work with European cellular systems. It will not work in the U.S.A.

And yes, it is GSM, which would be similar to what AT&T uses here in the U.S.A., but even with a sim card from an AT&T phone it would only operate at 2G speed not 3G (and that's if your cellular provider would actually even let it work at all).

Most people here just set up their smartphone as a wi-fi hotspot (which often involves an extra fee with the service provider for extra data usage). Then they can use a wi-fi connection to it from their notebook/laptop or tablet for Internet access.

I do not know of (nor do I think there are any) other 3G sticks that can just be plugged into the Archos G9 tablet(s) to work here (although there seems to be some experimentation along those lines over on xda-developers.com, but that requires rooting the tablet and installing custom firmware... which really is not worth all the extra effort and may still not work either).
