ADB Driver installation issue

Post by bluesmanuk »

After receiving my 80 Cobalt, I decided to root it and followed the instructions here to install the ADB driver:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... &nocache=1

It did not work for me initially but then discovered that it won't under 64 bit Windows 7.

So I tried under a 32 bit version and it worked.

A friend of mine also bought one and tried exactly the same on his 32 bit Windows 7 machine but it continually rejected the installation, citing that there was no compatible driver.

I remoted into his machine to confirm that he had followed the installation procedure correctly and he had, confirmed by me when I tried.

Whilst trying to diagnose the problem I looked at the android_winusb.inf file and under the [Google.NTx86] section there were the following lines:

;Archos 80 Cobalt
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0E79&PID_14A7
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0E79&PID_14A7&MI_01

Looking at the hardware details on his machine, it stated that is was VID_0E79&PID_14A5 the only difference being that there was a 5 at the end of the string instead of 7.

Before I modify the string, I thought I would see if doing so might cause any issues if I tried the driver install that way.

Has anybody else come across the same issue with installing the adb driver?

I would ask on the XDA thread as well but it seems that you go through a ludicrous process before you can post for assistance for the first time.
