no tv output

Post by coreservers »

Hi there. New to both archos and tablets.
Have also bought an HDMI to minihdmi cable to use on my Toshiba regza via HDMI. However, when all is connected, nothing's happening.
The TV over scan option appears when the cable is connected, but nothing on screen, using ics 4.0.6

Mine was working fine on 4.0.7, but since 4.0.24 or 4.0.25 it doesn't work anymore, neither with the latest version, 4.0.26. I have a Sony HD Ready LCD TV. Will try this weekend on a brand new LG at my father's home. I suggest that you try to do the same, maybe try 4.0.7, DON't go higher to avoid issues.
Maybe check your cable too...

If you already now have 4.0.26 installed... there are all kinds of bugs they still have to fix in some future firmware upgrades. Among them are some problems with the HDMI out for certain TV's or monitors.

Unfortunately, all you can do is report your problem to Archos and wait until they release a newer firmware upgrade. And, sadly, after you installed 4.0.26 there is absolutely no way to install any previous firmware. In fact, you can not even install their "official" SDE to then install other custom (rooted) ROM's.

As such, the ONLY (current) way to ever get back to the Archos 4.0.7 firmware (which worked quite well) now requires a very long and complicated method to install an UN-official SDE and then you could install a rooted version of the Archos stock 4.0.7

Even though I have done it myself, I would NOT recommend anyone else try to do so unless they have a LOT of knowledge about everything involved to do so!

So, best thing to do is report your specific details to Archos tech support and then hope and wait until they release a newer firmware upgrade.

unfortunately the device came with this installed. I bought 2nd hand.
I feel a little let down as it;s one of teh reasons I bought this tablet, was the hdmi output. and it is a major selling point in their advertising, for it not to work after an official update, is poor.

Really sorry to hear that it does not work for you. In general, the HDMI output with 4.0.26 works with ALMOST the same things it used to with the Archos 4.0.7 firmware. I do not have a TV with any HDMI inputs, but all the versions of Archos firmware I had (and that's about 8 official, plus at least that number more of "test" versions) have all work with the HDMI input of my computer monitor.

Before giving up all hope, can you test it on another TV and/or with a different cable? Also, double check that the TV is set to use the HDMI input you plug the tablet into. Also, try switching to a different input and then back again and/or turning the TV off and back on (some have said that has helped to get in sync with the tablet, not sure why though).

My G9 80 connects OK to my Toshiba regza screen via HDMI, with various versions of the firmware including the latest (I'm currently using 4.0.26). However, not all HDMI cables are equal; I did have some trouble using an older cable, and with some couplers. Before giving up, then, I would try other HDMI leads. I have had success with a lead I bought from Amazon - they tell me I bought this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003YQE7DS, but the picture looks wrong as what I have looks like this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003YGQYCK

I had this same issue, I had a cable that seemingly worked on my Archos 70 but only on a mates TV, when I get my g9 80 I tested the HDMI on my g9 to find it wouldn't work. But...... I but the bullet and got a small adapter from tesco to upsize the port to take a standard cable which I again bought from the tesco budget range. Best of all it works and on any TV. so the moral is steer clear of eBay "high quality" cables and source nearer home. I am currently on the latest firmware.

Glad you got it working!

Most people do not know that the HDMI spec has changed (several times) and that older HDMI cables do not even have all of the connector pins wired in them like the newer cables do (to meet the newer HDMI specs).

Very few newer devices with HDMI out work with older devices with HDMI inputs, and even fewer work at all with older cables between them. And, when you think about how old and obsolete any Archos G9 is (compared to how much tech has changed in other devices) it's really rather amazing that the HDMI even works at all with anything now anymore LOL.

Anyway, glad yours is working for now LOL.
