Is this worth it?

Post by misterJB »

I had the first archos gen8 101. didnt like it. so many issues.
also had a IT 5. which was pretty darn cool. just wanted a 3g tablet.
so im doing lots of research with this since i have had a couple tablets since. this will be used for 90% audio, 10% video.
my issue is im seeing so many conflicting #'s i will require it to have ICS and 1gb of ram. some of the turbos have it? some dont? dont really understand? hopefully someone can clear this up.

i see GPS issues? not interested in that.
not highly interested in connecting much to the USB, maybe stick flash drive in there and forget about it.

just need it to charge properly in the car and preferably have acceptable bluetooth A2DP quality. dont even need AVRCP.

i know of the plastic build quality which im totally fine with. i love the 8 inch size 10 is too big so staying away from the Note 10.1 and im selling my 7 in galaxy tab because i want ics and verizon makes it near impossible to switch OS with a flashed ROM.

i want something under 150(on ebay) because i wont be used it too much as im getting a note 2 which will be my powerhouse.

thanks everyone!

btw i used to have an accuont guess it gets swept out if not used in 2 years lol

for what its worth - I came from the 5it (Android) too. I really loved the 4.8 form factor and large hard drive but elected to update to the 80 and for the first time went with flash based 16gb model. my previous two Archie have been hard drive based.

really enjoying it so far and mainly use for video, some music, books and web browsing. I really haven't had any issues with it (touch wood) in the 3 or 4 months of owning so far. can't comment about use in the car or Bluetooth (I prefer to use aux in).

i appreciate your response. i can use the 3.5mm as well, using either is not an issue. with my galaxy tab though i get a little better audio quality via BT.

makes my decision a little easier.

I got a very good 4GB used one on ebay for only $90. The one I have is the 1.2 GHz model. If you can find a good one for $125 or less, go for it. For that price range, it is an excellent tablet.

I may be late to this but you cannot charge this tablet in a car or from a pc because it will be a slow charge and Archos told me it can damage the tablet. All I ever did with my 80 G9 was watch Youtube, surf the net, play Angry Birds and answer emails. I have had 2 of these units now and that is because the charge port goes bad after awhile and will no longer accept a charge. I am waiting for my third unit now, I have not had this tablet for even a year yet!! So let that be a warning to you if you didn't already buy one. I would suggest looking elsewhere for another tablet. Oh and the customer service is horrible anymore too.

i literally JUST bought one last wednesday and just received it in the mail today. So far ive played around with it for about a couple hours. so far i like it.

i like the size of it compared to my 10 in asus transformer. i LOVE the weight compared to it also. rather have the cheaper feel than the weight of the transformer.

i dont like that when i plug it into my tv it doesnt tak eup the whole screen due to the different ascept ratio. and the sound doesnt go through the HDMI. not a make or break for me.

MLB tv plays nice on it for me which was one of my biggest worries.

i have the 8gb original version running ICS - bought on ebay, it was supposed to be 1.5 turbo. :| trying to workout a deal to bring price down or opening a case. it does run smooth though.

i have an array of car chargers so ill see how it works.
