sound problems on video playback

I have uploaded tv shows/movies to my archos 101 G9 turbo 250gb. when I play them back the audio, only voices cannot be heard. this happens only when the headphones are plugged in. I have also tried numerous different types of headphones. when not plugged in plays just fine. any ideas or suggestions? thanks in advance.
