Been a while since I last used this device and I found FW version 1722 but my 504 will not recognize it...
Is FW update 1722 the most current? My current version is 1653. I dropped the 1722 into the root directory but my 504 does not recognize it and will not update to 1722! Am I missing something here?

You are talking about a firmware update for an Archos Gen4 device (the 504), yet you are posting in the forum section for Archos Gen6 devices (The Archos5 and 5g Internet Media Tablets). Also, firmware 1.7.22 is an update meant for the Archos5, not the older 504. AFAIK, 1.6.53 is the newest firmware available for Gen4 devices.
