70b is real broken..

Post by johntemp »

oh dear. I've had the A70it for over a year. Great device.

Just bought the A70b Honeycomb.

First off, massive dust particle under the glass! Poor quality control.

Worse, can't play any video of my SD card, the exact same card used on my A70it which works fine.

Can't transfer files from the external SD to the internal storage. Drives appear in Windows 7, and files copy half way then stop, permanantly.

If I transfer an icon onto the desktop, it stops functioning, but will function in the application root.

Now I can either wait and see if Archos sort this out with a firmware update or just send it back.

If I remember rightly FAT 32.

I used the card as delivered. Simply inserted, created folders in windows and copied stuff across. Works ok on the A70it.

Havn't tried EXT3.

The reason I ask is that Android does not read ntfs by default, so if you had formatted the card to ntfs for the A70IT ( which had ntfs support added by archos ) then maybe the new A70b firmware has not yet had support for other non standard formats added - it may be worth checking that the card is fat32 .

Ok, it's FAT32 however, checking the Archos site it seems their is a 10th Jan update, despite my device not picking this up.

Post update, videos and other content now play. However there is still a problem with copying data via the USB. Gets stuck half way through. Tried on several machines a desktop and laptop, in case of varying voltage on the USB, and still no joy. There is definitely a problem here. Very impressed by the Youtube app, which now displays HD video. Very impressive, although the installed browser is not as slick as I would expect for the tech. My Samsung Galaxy SII still runs slicker. Hopefully over time things will improve with updated firmware.

Galaxy s2 has more than twice the power of the Archos - don't hold your breath waiting for the archos to be that fast

I am an Archos user in the USA. I have had my 70b for 2 days and I have had the exact same experience. Can't play videos from SD card and the whole pad crashing if I try to transfer through USB. When I got it one of the first things I did was update the firmware, but apparantly I didn't update it enough. Did you go through the settings on your archos directly to update it or did you plug it into your computer and download and transfer the files? Please help!
