3G stick with "Three" SIM

Post by GeoffBu »

I have purchased the 3G stick, complete with SIM, from Archos and I'm struggling get it set up.

Having installed the SIM, from my PC, I registered on Three.co.uk/my3 as instructed and a message then appeared saying they had sent me a password so that I could log on from my PC to top up the card. Only trouble is the text was sent to the device with the SIM in it (Archos), thus I can't access the text message.

The FAQ's on the Archos website instruct to download the "Go SMS Pro" app from Android Market. I searched for this but the result came up with screens full of similar apps, but not one which looked like being "Go SMS Pro" as a single app.

I emailed my query, in detail, to Archos last night and received a not-very-helpful reply stating "the device is not compatible to send or receive SMS. Check from Android Market if a 3rd party application is compatible for this this usage".

I have also spoken with "Three", who stated they do not support Archos. No help whatsoever!

I'm sure I'm not the only one to have purchased the 3G stick complete with SIM. Help please.

you could try plugging the 3g stick into your laptop - it will install some software and that has an sms section. I expect you will be able to read the sms via this.

I'm going to be in the same boat. I have the 3g stick and used it successfully with a tmobile and o2 sims on a returned 80 g9 - both sims were payg with credit left so no need to re-register them.

I have a 3 sim with 3gb/3 months prepaid on it to use but don't want to register it until I need to as the 3 months use starts from first use.

Be interested to see if the pc option works.

I appreciate your quick reply, thanks.

I had already come up with the laptop option and it worked fine. Registered with Three, but could not pay as it states it can take up to 7 days to accept my card after registering it. I plugged the stick into Archos and here we are via 3G, easy!

I can't see why Archos couldn't have pointed me in this direction, but in my experience as an Archos user over 5 years, Archos move in mysterious ways!

download The Handcent SMS app from the market place. When connected via 3g you can send and receive text via your Archos directly!
