Archos 5 IT W/Android - LOW ON SPACE ERROR - = BAD Business

Post by Woodenhooka »

I have owned a Archos IT5 with 500GB for over a year now and would say I'm quite happy with the ability to load so many song's & movies that I can always keep myself amused, however I have two issues I feel need to be resolved.

1) The fact that Archos has advertised this device to be able to view TV or Video Online as one of it's major ability's and then not stay current with Flash Player so that most of the places on the internet such as Hulu Etc... are not within the players grasp.

2) To impose such a Small Limit to the system space available to Application storage - considering the massive amount of hard drive room on the unit - As more and more Applications are developed for Android the code used has begun to expand exponentially program's are growing in size and complexity and the experience level of the programmer is questionable with so many giving it a try these days - Let's step back to the early 80's when a program ran fast and strong on a 64K & floppy disk - compared to now when you have to have massive amounts of hard drive room and memory - History repeats with Android - "Go Figure"

I believe this makes for a bad Business Model for Archos or Android Operating system - Since the Small Application storage space is limiting the amount of programs a unit can hold thus limiting the amount of $$ consumers can spend in a app store ---- Small App Storage = Small Money Spent.

From what I have experienced the Hardware, Rom, Ram, CPU, is able to run most applications without problem - however the small amount of room for storage on the system partition is limiting the device - If this where a Windows PC one would simply re-size the partition - Why can't a Fix be generated to apply to this device :?:

Can someone please explain what the hardware limitations are that is limiting a fix from being developed :?:

I have tried to search and educate myself on the topic of - "LOW ON SYSTEM SPACE" - However have not found a usable solution - Are there any new developments or fixes available that don't run the chance of turning my IT5 into a Brick.

As is the flash problem. Adobe decided not to support any Android version prior to 2.1 thus your flash is broken too.

Archos released later versions of their media player that have Android 2.1 but don't have pvr docking stations and slightly smaller form factor. This is probably why they haven't and won't release updated firmware for the 5IT to be Android 2.1 Why would you buy the Tablet 43 if they did? The 5IT would then have it all.

You can not easily buy the 5IT anymore especially cheap outside of scambay. Additionally the 48 will never have the GPS either if you needed it, hated or not

Forced obsolesence by the sounds. They want people to go without a PVR docking station and live with a 4.3 inch screen then they get Android 2.1, not even 2.3.....

I'm happy with my Archos 5IT and will turn it in just before the 2 year PSP plan is up to get my money back for another device. I essentially got my 5IT for 60 bucks due to the same thing done with my old Samsung YP-P3.

Is there any way to do a recovery so that I can put my Archos back to the way it came. I have no Apps on it and I can no longer put apps it says no space, so I need to do something simple. I'm NOT techie. Last year I did a recovery but when I tried to redo same thing this year the support-files were not there. I had gone back in my email to see how to do it. PLEASE HELP
THANKS Marg

Yes, you'd do good to look around the wiki, especially the A5IT page. In the A5IT Newbie Tips, there is a section on restoring your device to its original factory settings. It's pretty easy.
