New remote app

Post by warlock257 »

I thought this was a pretty neat new app it added. I have an HTC desire and it would be cool to use it as a remote and use the 101 as a media player, hooked up to the TV (save me having to buy an HDMI extension).

Apparently though it only connects to other gen 8 archos devices.

How many people really have 2 gen 8 devices. Why not make it any android device GRRRR

The Remote app is in the normal Google Marketplace.

The restriction to Gen8 is only in terms of beeing controlled. This means you can control your Archos Gen8 with any other android device but you cannot control any non-Gen8 Device with this app.

I have the Archos 70(8GB) and Archos 43(16GB). I got the A70 first, but my boys have kinda taken it over. I then got an A43. I am addicted to gadgets. :D

How did you manage this? I have an HTC Desire HD, but the app always says, that there are no Archos devices...
I have enabled "Disvoverable" in my A70 (8GB)
Do I have to create a VPN or something or is it enough to have both devices logged in at the same WLAN Network?
Not that I expected it to work on first try, but that's what we all love about Archos, right? ;)
So tell me if you need further information.

Did you download the app on your desire too?
It should be able to pick it up just being on the same network

Thanks for the fast answer!
Yes, I installed the app on DHD, too.
I tried it again while the A70 was connected to the TV, but no change.
I restarted both devices an started a video on the A70, but the remote app on DHD always says "No Archos device detected"
I can communicate between the DHD and a PC and between the A70 and a PC, so the network options should also be right...
Maybe that's a help for somebody.

Got it working with a DHD and A101

Need to make sure you go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Remote Control Settings on your Archos

Set "Discoverable" on and change the "Pairing Key" (the default didn't work for me)

Should then appear on your DHD client

The pairing code is case sensitive too.

That tripped me up when I was setting it up.

I got mine a70 to work with my friend's Droid 2 :D . all you have to do is make sure that the archos and the android device you want to use are on the same wifi network together and that the archos is set for discovery for wireless control. I would have gone to see if it worked with other android phones but my Archos was acting funny so I went home. it's back to normal after I turn off the discovery mood in the wireless settings. you may want to watch it to see if there might be a bug with the remote app when you disconnect it. it's a shame it doesn't work with winmo 6.0 ~ 6.5 or I would have been all over it by now

New remote app .. doesn't work

Post by bemoo »

I have installed the new fw on my Archos 70 and made it 'discoverable'. I have installed the Archos-app on my Samsung Galaxy S(i9000) and they are both on the same wifi network.

But my Galaxy doens't see the Archos. "no devices found'. Can anybody tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Excuse me for the OT, but I had your same need and I used BlueputDroid for using my HD2 as a bluetooth mouse while the 101 is playing media on the TV. But for HTC devices you need a Cyanogenmod for it to work. :(

i cannot get to the remote settings for my a 101 theres no option so i cant make it discoverable but my evo and my a 101 are on the same network. i was under the impression that the a 101 and the 70 like all other gen 8 devices were on the same firmware version but im guessing this is not the case because i see no success stories with this app about the the a 101 in this forum lol. so is the a101 compatible with this app?

Just an FYI to people ...
I just took my A101 out and noticed the battery was lower than usual since I didn't turn WiFi on and I checked the battery usage and the following info came up:
4h46m 29s since unplugged and at 75% battery

Android System 45%
Device idle 33%
Archos Remote Control 22%

I completely forgot that my Archos is still set to discoverable. Seems like this should automatically be disabled if WiFi is off though.
