Need a good photo application

Post by davidbec »

I've started looking on appslib and the market already but so far no luck.

As you know the default photo application scans the entire device and pulls up all the pictures it finds. Well I have an atlas and the world fact book on my device so it takes pretty darn long to display anything and I don't want all of those pictures showing anyhow.

Is there an app you know of that lets you select the folder you want to display for photos?

You can use something like this to limit what folders are searched to populate photo/music/video libraries:

Adobe Photoshop? Not as powerful as the PC version of course, but still pretty good.

No need for an app. If you add (create) a file called .nomedia in a directory then Gallery will not index the images in that directory or its subdirectories.

The benefit of the app is that you can see which folders have that .nomedia file without actually going into every folder to check. Also you can just long click to add/remove the .nomedia file instead of having to type anything.

I havent had time to play with it a lot, but Just Pictures lets you select a directory.

Placing the .nomedia file in the directory did not seem to work for me at all.

The gallery comes up and displays "(3657)" and "thumbnails (431)" one above the other and nothing else. No actual thumbnails and when I click any of those links. All of the boxes are blank where the pictures should be.

The internal disk has a .nomedia on the root to prevent it scanning there.

I have able 100 pictures total on the SD card and about 40 movies. So I don't know what that "3657" number is all about.

I installed Photoslides, and while this works for giving you a slide show. It does not give you the thumbnails of the files in the directory.

I also install Photo Gallery and this just keeps looking for files. Looking; and looking; and looking....

Use an app called QuickPic it's the best one out there. Not only can you choose which folders to include but you can hide folders with a password as well, plus you can have it do your videos if you want too.

After you get the .nomedia's where you want them you may have to reset your multimedia gallery and let it rebuild.
settings -> repair and formatting -> reset multimedia library
then settings -> storage -> update multimedia library

Thanks frank, but I already installed Quickpics and the name definitely suits it.

It pulled up all the files on the device in less than 5 seconds. Once I told it what to ignore, I had the folders I wanted in less than 2 minutes.

Why do some manufacturers persist in including subpar applications in their devices. They love the dev community that much?

Its good you found a solution you like.
You'll potentially have the same issue with music and video files, so keep the .nomedia tricks handy ;)
