The Asus Transformer - Any Archos User tempted?

I am tempted to purchase the Asus Transformer, only £100 GBP more than the Archos.

Looks a quality unit with some good functionality, and a 'real' i-Pad killer.

No doubt it's of higher quality than any Archos made device. Looks like trouble for Archos to me.

Just ran across this today. If this really hit BB for 400 dollars next week and is as good as the reviews claim then yes I will probably pick one up and sell my archos. The only thing that keeps me tied to my archos right now is the size and weight. For that price and quality/performance I'll suck up the weight difference.

The Motorola Xoom was tempting but has a mini USB that only supports a keyboard until a future update. It also has a micro sd slot that does nothing till a future update. The problem is that future could be tomorrow, next week, next year or 2025.

There is a hack for the usb on the xoom to support flash drives. I am hoping that if not there OOTB then it will come for the asus. who know, need to see it first but looks very promising.

You do get usb if you purchase the keyboard dock, but I don't want to carry around that much. Already have a netbook, so, other than touchscreen, i don't see much benefit for me.

Cool thanks best review of the dock I've seen. Now I really want it. Hopefully if usb host can be provided from the dock there will be a standalone cable too. Too bad about the propritary connector though.

That is the only thing stopping my mouse placing a pre-order for it. The lack of usb on the actual tablet part. If it had one on the tablet, this baby would be ideal. I know it has 2 x usb on the keyboard add-on, but it would be perfect if it were on the actual tablet.

The gorilla glass, the solid tablet, larger viewing area, pure working flash, etc. etc. For £100 more than the 101, at least you would not have to treat it with kid gloves, in fear of breaking it, like we all do with the archos.

Somebody please convince me that there is a work-around for the usb, as I really want to order one

Archos may have provided a USB but that's a failure since mine died just like many others.
If they would give us a tablet with 128 gigs I would not need my portable drive.
In a few years I would expect to see them with 128 gigs.

I don't understand why the proprietary connector is a killer? Seems exactly the same as Archos "docks", which have extended the use of, e.g. Archos A5ITs, tremendously.

The £50 extra (currently being asked in Amazon UK) is similar to the price which was charged for the Gen 7 Battery dock.

This combo looks unbeatable.

The dock provides USB ports. In the pictures shown in the link above, there is no view of the USB ports - they are under a cover. In the absence of any other info, I have to assume they are full size "standard" USB ports.

If you read the thread one thing missing on this table is the ability to have USB host WITHOUT the keyboard dock. It's one of the main features on the a101. The xoom had a mini usb host that worked just for keyboards but was hacked to work with usb drives as well. The transformer does not have this just the proprietary connector for the doc. Being proprietary will be harder for someone to produce a host cable adapter for this tablet.
