Flash 10.1 on appslib
Flash 10.1 on appslib
Has anyone had any luck with the flash 10.1 on appslib? First of all, it only runs on demand, you get a green arrow that you have to push for video. I have tried youtube and the video will run for about 10 secs and than it closes the website and my internet connection. It did the same on another site. Is this the certified Adobe flash we have been waiting for? I hope not.

Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
Flash certification will be accompanied by a fanfare of some description - so no, its not. Flash has user settings, it can be set to run always, on demand or never - check your settings. Incidentally, this is the version of flash that will become the official version - hardware acceleration will be turned on for it when adobe finally get their finger out.
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
Some member of Archos said that it is not an optimised version of Flash they are working on but how the firmware interacts with it that makes it run better. You cannot actually optimise Flash as it's not open source and only Adobe has the source code. Personally I cannot see why, given this fact, Archos doesn't just release the firmware since they not actually messing with Flash it's self.

Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
You only have to look back at Archos and how over the years it has dealt with similar issues, such as volume for one example - they are absoulute sticklers for rules - they don't break them !
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
The fact that Flash isn't open source doesn't mean that you can't create an optimized Flash player. Flash is an open standard (as in published specs), but the Flash executable is copyrighted. To be really honest, the Sorensen codec isn't part of the open standard, so you could argue that Flash is not a 100% open standard. But I think that's because the Sorenson codec isn't part of Adobes IP and they probably are not allowed to disclose it.
Anyone can release a compatible (example: Gnash) Flash player, but if you want the "seal of approval" from Adobe, you have to go through the testing and perhaps license ($$$) program. It could also be that Archos bought a license on the Flash code, but that would probably come with a non-disclosure agreement.

Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
someone from archos has already confirmed that it isnt actually a build of flash that is what they'll be eventually releasing, but a rom including the optomisations (unsure as to why that exactly would mean that they couldnt release it until adobe have certified though?!!)
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
Can anyone compare to confirm if this Flash 10.1 posted by Tom something in AppsLib is better than any of the other Flash apk that one can find on the internet like the latest Droid X flash apk? In my test of embedded YouTube playback, such as playing it from this page http://armdevices.net/2011/02/28/worlds ... ebit-2011/ I can only playback 360p fully smoothly, I don't know if it can be done to say that full screen needs to be 360p for YouTube embeds by default, otherwise it automatically reloads a 480p version in full screen, and that for some reason does not play fully smoothly. I want at least 720p Flash video playback full screen fully smoothly, but I guess Gen9 hardware might be necessary for that (tegra2 doesn't even support more than 480p for full screen youtube flash playback).

Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
The appslib version of flash is the same as the current market version (10.1.106.16), so it won't run any better.
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
I don't know for sure, but I expect there to be several 10.1.106.16 flash apks, one for each ARM processor out there, at least of those major ARM Processors with graphics hardware acceleration that Adobe has prioritized to optimize a version of their player for. I don't believe all ARM powered devices just use the same Flash apk.WMTOANDROID wrote:The appslib version of flash is the same as the current market version (10.1.106.16), so it won't run any better.
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
Archos have already confirmed their version of flash will be the same as the market version with the hardware acceleration occurring outside of the flash application.Charbax wrote:I don't know for sure, but I expect there to be several 10.1.106.16 flash apks, one for each ARM processor out there, at least of those major ARM Processors with graphics hardware acceleration that Adobe has prioritized to optimize a version of their player for. I don't know that Google Marketplace recognizes the Archos for what hardware it really is, and I don't know that Archos recognizes that Google Marketplace even works on their devices. Google might not even filter the Google Marketplace exactly for the Archos hardware at the moment.mr-mac wrote:Archos have already confirmed their version of flash will be the same as the market version with the hardware acceleration occurring outside of the flash application.Charbax wrote:I don't know for sure, but I expect there to be several 10.1.106.16 flash apks, one for each ARM processor out there, at least of those major ARM Processors with graphics hardware acceleration that Adobe has prioritized to optimize a version of their player for. What needs to be checked is how exactly Archos performs with the Flash 10.1 in AppsLib and any other Flash apk such as the Droid X one, and then compare that performance with the official Flash performance on Droid X, on any other Texas Instruments OMAP3 Android Froyo or newer devices that are out or coming out (like the upcoming LG Optimus black), or with any other single core Android smartphones or tablets, and there it would be, someone should make sure if there seems to be the expected level of performance in those Flash installations, even unofficial, or if better performance can be expected from an official Flash support at all.
Aren't there some online Flash benchmarks that can be tested and compared?

Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
For what it's worth, there is a newer version of Flash available I think it's 10.1.120 which is optimized for Viewsonic tablets (I believe). I'm not sure how Archo's will implement this "optimized flash", but if it's not coming from a new version of the flash app itself, perhaps they will be including it in a firmware update?mr-mac wrote:Archos have already confirmed their version of flash will be the same as the market version with the hardware acceleration occurring outside of the flash application.Charbax wrote:I don't know for sure, but I expect there to be several 10.1.106.16 flash apks, one for each ARM processor out there, at least of those major ARM Processors with graphics hardware acceleration that Adobe has prioritized to optimize a version of their player for. I still think we're all dreaming - we will likely never see an official flash support for these devices.
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
I tried the appslib flash player, and unlike someone said, my browser just crashed..maybe it depends on web browsers..I was using xScope.. and before trying this flash player, someone kindly gave me a link, in this forum, for the DroidX flash and, again, browser just crashed.. I tried it because many people here said Droid X flash works best for the gen8. But it didn't work for mine...just crashed. Maybe web browsers other than xscope works better with flash..?
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
As said loads of times acceleration will be handled in rom not the apk. Also should have nothing to do with 10.2 as it only supports android 3.0.
Charbax - web based market defo identifies my device as an archos 101IT not sure how well it filters but says apps are not compatible.

Why don't you try it yourself ?sw6lee wrote:Maybe web browsers other than xscope works better with flash..?
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
You can find the settings in the browser. Dolphin will ask you at first flash run. But not the stock browser.paulus3476 wrote:Flash certification will be accompanied by a fanfare of some description - so no, its not. In the stock browser go to Menu -> More -> Settings -> Enable Plug-Ins -> Always on

Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
I hope you can forgive a complete neophyte question...
Just got my Archos 43. Did the firmware update. Want to watch videos on full sites. Right now, I cannot. I need to get Flash 10, correct?
And, according to what I read here, the version available on the AppsLib seems, to work (though less than ideally).
Am I correct?
Also....I'm using the browser that came with the Archos. Once I have gotten Flash 10, I need to change the settings on the browser to "Enable plug-ins"/"Always on"?
Thanks in advance...great site...looks like it is going to be THE invaluable resource as I progress in my understanding of the 43.

Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
as of yesterday the (seemingly) best flash plugin available is the 10.2 leaked xoom apk. Look in the thread regarding flash 10.2 and follow the trail of links to download the .apk file.marcinek wrote:I hope you can forgive a complete neophyte question...

regarding the browser, the default setting will provide a placeholder for flash items which you can click on to then load the bit of flash you want (llike a youtubte video). If that's too much hasslle you can choose to have lflash alwlays on but this means tht all flash elements - even undesirablle ones such as ads etc. will be loaded automatically - this slows down the broswer ad will drain battery quicker.
A32 - no market & no appslib
Re: Flash 10.1 on appslib
Thanks Blokey! That point about not having Flash on all the time makes a lot of sense.
I'm going to give the AppsLib Flash a shot.
Wish me luck!
