Crap Revisited

Today I gave an informal warning to Lionheart for using "crap" in a post and edited his post changing "crap" to "terrible". As I always do I PMed him from his OP.

In his reply he took umbrage with my informal warning which apparently singled him out. He said a search showed plenty of folks were using "crap".

I replied that I don't go looking for crap as a moderator, I just deal with it when I find it as a member.

This got me to wondering how much crap was out there in the Gen8 forums - total and since the new site rules. Here's what I found:
Count - Since 5 Jan Site Rules - Search String

• 594 - 98 - crap* (41 since 2 Feb)
  179 - 23 - piss* (12 since 4 Feb)
  125 - 12 - wtf*
  92 - 10 - "ass "
  68 - 6 - shit*

Note: Obviously, the counts don't include posts we edited.

My feelings were to:
1. Add to the Site Rules topic a post saying all past profanity is forgiven until a specified date
2. Include in our Moderator duties daily Advanced search for profanity
3. Issue an informal warning for first time profanity we find from the search
4. Require us to Put "Profanity" as the reason when we edit and lock a profane post so we can count the number of profane informal and formal warnings a member has.
5. Allow some items from the list above, I don't really like this one (thinking of Roy's young children)
6. Add more Search strings to the list above

What say you, one, and all?

To me, crap=rubbish. The bad connotation only comes up as #4 in dictionary below. Most of the other words I find offensive, but might not be considered bad in all countries. In the UK, isn't "bloody" offensive and "piss" is less so? I really hate "wtf", but that is me. Is there an international english equivilant for the US "7 dirty words"? Do moderators have duties?

I'm fine with removing "crap" from the list.

BTW, I couldn't get "f**k" and variants to show up in Search.

just let me know which words I should setup to auto change to banana or something else, this way people swearing turn out to have posts that make them look weird or something.

As a start, the old list was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_dirt ... #The_words . Maybe combine most of this with most of Allens list (but wtf = world taekwondo federation)?

EDIT: Maybe Allen would like to merge these lists and edit some words in or out, then pm it to charbax. Would save the delicate sensibilities of readers of this topic.

I looked at the Wikipedia list and don't feel the need to make a new list now.

From here on "crap" and variants are off my profanity list. Seems like I grew up with "crap" being a swear word, but most didn't.
