Re: Bypassing the Cinema Plugin
This is great. I'll have to keep one of these installed. I encountered the Plug in message on some of my .avi files, but other .avi files work. :\
I thought it was because of one of the fw updates I've done

Which one has been your favorite to use thus far? I wasn't thoroughly impressed with Rock Player...yumms wrote:Following video players are able to play videos that cannot be played on Archos devices without the Cinema plugin. If you find any other players, please add them below.

Re: Bypassing the Cinema Plugin
I'd recommend VitalPlayer and arcMedia.
Re: Bypassing the Cinema Plugin
Probably some have MP3 audio and some have AC3 audio. The plugin is required for AC3.VipFREAK wrote:This is great. I'll have to keep one of these installed. I encountered the Plug in message on some of my .avi files, but other .avi files work. :\

You can add mplayer to the list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890761
Re: Bypassing the Cinema Plugin
I just installed VitalPlayer and I can play AC3 again and without stuttering. I also tried arcMedia and it had audio sync problems with the same file.
Thx for pointing me to this app.

Re: Bypassing the Cinema Plugin
.
I am just a little puzzled here...
The stock Archos media player is well known as one of the best multi-codec media players around.
You only really need the Cinema plug-in if you do not wish to transcode any files you get hold of as in it will add Mp4, AC3 and VOB compatibility (and a few others) and uses the Archos devices hardware acceleration to best capability, increasing battery life (most others are software decoding).
The reason Archos sell this as an extra is because of license fees for the HW decoding, if you dont use your device primarily as a media player, you should not have to pay the fees.
Also, because of the screen layout, all the others will leave the Archos buttons on screen, reducing your viewable area..

Re: Bypassing the Cinema Plugin
will these player take advantage of the hardware decoding? in other words will they play 720p mkv without stuttering? That's the real question, since the stock player plays pretty much everything else except 720 mkv with ac3 multichannel audio.
Re: Bypassing the Cinema Plugin
I tried arcmedia, vitalplayer, and rockplayer and they don't play my .vobs for more than a few moments. These play ok on my a5imt with plugin, and on the usual players on a laptop. They have ac3 sound by sort of an accident.
I also tried them on a damaged video that won't play on any stock archos player. It only works on forgiving laptop players. Only rockplayer could handle it, but the sound quit early on (ok in this case).

Mmmm, qqplayer is my favorite so far - it must be forgiving because only it can play my damaged video correctly. Still freezes on my .vob after a few seconds (somebody grafted ac3 elevator music onto our home movies), but yxplayer won't touch .vob and gets all pixelated on my damaged video. Mainly what I look for in a VLC replacement is being error forgiving, and the android VLC isn't (yet).
