Just wondered if anyone knows whether the following instructions would work for our Gen 8's? Not brave enough to risk bricking, although would a failed flash be recoverable through recovery, by reformatting the internal memory?

Is there nothing more urgent or useful to waste time on for gen8 open development than reflashing the boot logo?
next time we should mabye only release a way to change the boot logo ....

Wow, no need to be so rude! Clearly there are much more interesting developments, and no-one expects Archos to spend time on this sort of thing rather than more useful improvements, like today's firmware update. However, many people like to customise their devices, and the boot screen is one aspect. The whole point of Android is meant to be its open nature and customisability.
I posted the question on a community forum, and not sent to Archos customer support, precisely because I was looking to the community for input, not Archos. I agree Archos devs' time is far better spent on other things.
I for one have a great deal of appreciation for all your (well, clearly not you, but the Archos devs as a whole) hard work on keeping our devices up to date.
Big -1 for Archos customer support, will not be contacting you guys for anything in future.

I have successfully changed my boot screen to the Mario Brothers (Super NES Version) game introduction screen by the following method:

I started the above thread and if the directions are followed closely, you too can change yours to whatever you want.
Just remember that the boot screen animation HAS TO be the size: 1024 x 600 or very close to it for it to work.
