SDE on the 28 as a Dev device

I have found a 28 for about $70. I am really tempted to get it and put the SDE on it for development purposes. Am I crazy and should just save my money or buy it and turn it into a learning device.
When I say SDE, I mean the Archos SDE firmware pack on the support page.

Opinions gladly accepted.
