CoPilot Live Problem
My understanding is that the 101 has a built in GPS receiver. I purchased and installed CoPilot Live. Everyting appears to be working except for the GPS receiver. When I run CoPilot I get a pop up that says "No GPS found. Would you like to enable the GPS?" I click on the OK button and it takes me to Settings/Location & Security Settings. "Use Wireless Networks" is checked. What am I supposed to do then? Everything else within CoPilot seems to be working. The maps are loaded, etc. It seems that only the GPS is the issue. I called Archos Tech Support and that was a complete waste of time. I believe some of you have CoPilot working on the 101. Can some one please help me?

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
It does not have a built in GPS receiver. It has built in support for bluetooth GPS receivers. I have a bluetooth GPS unit paired with mine and google maps is working. I am having trouble with copilot though. keeps telling me my trial is over and with the new return policy of 15 minutes I have no time to trouble shoot it. If anyone has steps on how to get copilot working on these gen 8s let me know. thanks!

Thank you, Marcus. Somebody had posted on the forum that the 101 has a built in GPS receiver. I just assumed they were correct. I will look for a bluetooth GPS. Which one do you have?

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
I have a Holux M1000. It connects to the Archos fine and picks up location quickly. It was not the cheapest receiver but was definitely not the most expensive one either. I got it for $46 shipped. I know some people have found receivers for $20 dollars but I am not sure how accurate or how quickly they get the location. Also Mine has picked up the GPS location inside of my house and other buildings with no problem. My TomTom GPS I have would not do that and I am sure some of the cheaper GPS receivers have trouble with that.

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
Boilermaker,
Marcus is right. I have the TomTom receiver that's $18 on Amazon, and it definitely has difficulty in initially finding the satellites under any less-than-ideal conditions. I live in New York City, and it had trouble while amongst the tall buildings. Had to go out to the park to get it to find the satellites.
Marcus,
I'm going through the exact same thing with CoPilot. I already went one round with a long procedure to remove, delete files, clear Market cache, download maps, manually copy them onto the SD card and retry without success. Should I stumble across a solution I'll try to post it here.

same here with the satellite acquisition. Mine doesn't work inside unless its sitting on the window sill. Even if I'm on the bus, it has trouble unless I'm sitting next to the window.
I guess that's why car GPS's are usually in the front wind shield.

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
There is a special way you have to install Copilot Live in order to get it to work. I went through this when I first downloaded mine. Here is the tech support email from Copilot on how to install it on the tablet:rglick64 wrote:Boilermaker,

Dear James,
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
First uninstall CoPilot from your device.
1) Uninstall CoPilot in SETTINGS | MANAGE APPLICATIONS | COPILOT.
Then clear the cache in your device:
2) Go to SETTINGS / MANAGE APPLICATIONS / Market Place / Clear cache
Now download the installer again from Android Market
3) Download CoPilot from the Market Place again (you will not be charged for this)
Once you download the application, please activate it using your Google Order Number: 765xxxxxxxxxxxx
You will know you are activated when your Google Order Number is accepted. You will receive an e-mail with your product key and your product key will be listed under MENU --> SETTINGS --> ABOUT COPILOT in the Copilot software.
Once you see the product key listed, please take note of it and then (in the Copilot software) go to MENU --> SETTINGS --> LICENSING and select 'deactivate' and follow the deactivation steps.
Once you have deactivated the product key you are ready to reinstall the app on your tab. Please do so using the following options.
First uninstall CoPilot from your device.
1) Uninstall CoPilot in SETTINGS | APPLICATIONS | COPILOT
2) Connect your Anroid device to your desktop computer via USB
3) On the device, drag the top bar down to the bottom of the screen and tap on 'USB connected'
4) Select 'Mount'
5) Locate the 'Copilot' folder on the storage card of your device and delete it
6) Disconnect your device from your desktop computer
Then reinstall the application on your tablet device
On the Android tablet go into
1. SETTINGS
2. APPLICATIONS
3. On this screen you have UNKNOWN SOURCES. This has to be ticked. If itÔÇÖs not ticked, then the APK install will fail.
4. Once ticked, press the BACK hardware button on the phone twice
5. Open up web browser on phone
6. Browse to http://www.alk.eu.com/copilotlive/androidinstall/
7. Download and install, following the on-screen instructions
Finally reinstall the maps on your Android tablet device:
Please click on the following link:
USA
https://copilotlive8.s3.amazonaws.com/U ... ndroid.zip
1) Download and unzip the above file to your PC (e.g. On the desktop)
2) Open the file and locate the 'Copilot' folder
3) Connect your Android device to your PC through USB cable
4) On the device, drag the top bar down to the bottom of the screen and tap on 'USB connected'
5) Select 'Mount'
6) Ensure you have the correct amount of free space on your Storage Card (as above) otherwise it will not unpack correctly in step 10).
7) Delete any 'Copilot' folder already present on the storage card on your device and copy the newly downloaded 'Copilot' folder to the root of the storage card
Once copy has finished, wait 60 seconds and disconnect your Android device
9) Go onto your device and launch the CoPilot software
10) You should receive a notification that new data is being unpacked - allow this to continue
11) Providing enough storage card free space is available you can now go into SETTINGS | DATA REGION and select your data region
If you have any further questions, or feel that this incident has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please do not hesitate to bring this to our attention.
Regards,
Cara

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
Hey guys, sorry to barge in on this topic, but since you all seem to be using CoPilot Live I have to ask: does the newest update of CoPilot still have the graphical issue in landscape when you go out of the program? I'm very interested in the software, but I don't want to restart the program and reset my route every time that happens.

NickD: yes, I still had that issue in the less then 15 minutes I tested it, but I did not try .
Rockstar: How well does this fix work, I don't think I could get through that in the 15 minute return window to test it.

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
Well its not a really a fix, it's just how the Google verification works. As for the 15min policy I know it took my Google order number 3 days to show up in the Copilot system, so I don't see how this new 15min return policy is fair! Although I have to say that the CSR reps when I called were really nice and willing to help(even though I called 3 days in a row, sometimes twice), and once my order number showed up in their system, and after I followed the directions in the email the product worked great.MarcusMarcus wrote:NickD: yes, I still had that issue in the less then 15 minutes I tested it, but I did not try .

I had exactly the same experience. I got the same instructions, and was still getting the error, and tech support suggested that I wait a few days for the Google order number to show up in their system. Then the installation worked fine.Rockstar wrote:Well its not a really a fix, it's just how the Google verification works. And I'm still having the landscape screen issue, but I only see it when switching from portrait to landscape. If you start and stay in landscape it seems to work fine. Hopefully that will be addressed in a future update. But for $5 for full offline US Maps, I'm still pretty happy with it.
I guess if I had a real problem with some software that I bought and the 15-minute refund thing was a problem and I couldn't get satisfaction directly from the vendor, I guess my next line of defense would be to dispute the charge on my credit card. Haven't run into that so far, though.
Re: CoPilot Live Problem
Installed Copilot on my mother's new Archos70. Like others, the trial time was instantly expired, but I was able to active about 3 days after purchase (for $5, I was willing to risk it).
I've been trying to analyse the landscape screen corruption. Unfortunately, it appears to be caused by how Archos has implemented the soft-buttons on the right side. Copilot properly determines the effective screen-size when it first starts up. However, whenever you return to copilot, I see it appear with the full 800-pixel width...THEN the button panel appears and tries to resize the effective screen-size when Copilot is already running. This causes the screen to corrupt. The same thing happens when rotating to portrait mode, but thankfully the button panel just overlays on top of the Copilot interface.
Archos needs to issue an update when the effective screen area reported to the application is CONSTANT. Having the button-panel appear and attempt to resize the screen area is going to cause some issues with many programs that only scan screen-size on startup.
Yes, I know that Archos pointed a finger at the Kindle application for not "properly" compensating for a variable screen-size. However, if they intend to make the button-panel permanent, then it's erroneous to ever report a full screen-size to the application, only to snatch it away a moment later.
Anyhow, you can at least get a readable screen if you rotate to portrait mode. But the only way to return to landscape mode is to quit and restart Copilot. We'll see if any future update by Copilot (handle variable screen size) or Archos (report consistent screen size) will resolve this issue. Otherwise, it's working marvelously well for a small $5 purchase!

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
I decided to give this a try last night on my Archos 101 and purchased it. I figured for $5.00 it wasn't a bad deal. The first time I tried to get it running I got the invalid IMEI error, so I sent them an email asking how I could possibly get around it. This morning I received a refund for my purchase.
My guess is that they aren't supporting it on the Archos 101 (I did finally double check the supported devices on their website and the Archos is not listed).
So, back to the drawing board. I guess they are trying to use the IMEI number to tie the software to a specific phone. Has anybody gotten it working on the Archos 101, and if so, how did you do it? I tried following the instructions in this thread but none of them has worked.

Re: CoPilot Live Problem
it probably depends on what version of the .apk you've installed. the ones in the market now are tied to the imei number and therefore they are not officially supporting it on the archos devices. which version are you running?ashram wrote:the imei issue was fixed weeks ago... i'll try it when i get home. but i had the same issue initially and it was fixed the following week.
