It's a terrific idea! Just drop the 'open development' part in the name please! Like you did in the topic of this message.
Then All the 'can haz r00tz' / Android hacking / whatever cracking /  people can congregate there.
For open development my point stands: Gen6, Gen7 and Gen8 are fairly simmilar in many respects and as long as people state which hardware specifics they are interested in it works very well.
C.f. we are not starting an openAOS-gen8 project with an own domain just because that came out, we're actually working across all models and our knowledge helps us a lot.
