So tired of waiting on archos.. Any Alternatives?

that pretty much leaves you with galaxy tab. if for no other reason than the camera, but its gonna cost you.

Funny, the A101 was in stock at archos.com earlier and the A70 is now. I have one of each by watching when they were available and buying. Over a month for the 70 and a week for the 101. You're waiting again why?

I assumed he meant he was sick of waiting for the issues to get resolved, but maybe you're right. He probably doesn't know where or when to get one. They are still selling for 500+ on ebay which is ridiculous at this point

You even see them being sold on Amazon for $100+ over the MSRP.

And i believe maybe he's waiting for the 250GB 70IT? If that's the case.... then no.... there are no alternatives. Archos is pretty much the only tablet manufacturer that had capacity as somewhat of a focus when designing their tablets.

And i'm not even sure i consider the Galaxy Tab an alternative. Granted, i have yet to actually handle any Archos 70/101's.... but i've messed with the Tab at Best Buy the other day, and right off the bat wasn't impressed with it. I'm not sure exactly why... but something just didn't seem right.... aside from the price tag similar to that of an iPad if i remember correctly.

The ONLY tablet with the real google market is the Galaxy Tab.

For me there are 4 options right now

- Galaxy Tab
- iPad - obviously no camera
- Archos 7 or 10
- Gtablet - will REQUIRE installation of a custom ROM to get it to work better than a $100 chinese tablet it seems.

Even if I didn't already own the archos, I would still think it is by far the best buy of the 4. Galaxy Tab I think is better, but for me not $300 better. Not sure why anyone would have waited this long to buy an iPad. iPad2 will be out in March. Depending on your reasons for not liking the archos, the Gtablet may end up being worse.

I guess some places they are not used to waiting for cool new gadets to appear on the home market ... f.x. here in Denmark the iPad just came on sale this week. It only took 8 months from time of launch. Nexus One never came to DK. Paid apps in Market appeared a month ago (without either hacking the phone or using a foreign sim card). Nexus S will come on sale sometime in April. Windows Market doesn't work in this country yet (making most WP7 smartphones utterly useless .. again unless you hack it).

Take a chill-pill ... Archos will come soon enough, and i am sure you will get better value for money than most of the other tablets available now.

The secret sensor thingie the NI blogger dude was yapping about is probably an NFC chip. That said, I've no interest in the Adam, and not just because I think the dude is a blowhard. The thing is heavy. At 1.6 lbs, it's even heavier than the iPad at 1.5 lbs. The PQ thing might catch some fancy, but I don't see myself using the thing outdoors any time soon. If I'd be carrying anything, it'd be a 7" or a 5".

And it'll be in the same boat as the Gen8, i.e. a "pre-official" tablet.

NI looks nice. dual core, nvidia gpu, 802.11n, etc. Might be worth looking at that.
If I paid full price for a non-permarootable downclocked Archos compared to that which have almost similar price and it turns out as nice as it seem, I might be upset.

Adam will launch with 2.2 in Jan at the earliest, or Feb as more likely. That gives about 2-3 months before 3.0 tablets hit. $500 is kinda pricey for 2-3 months play time.

I think it's safe to say that for now, there's no real good option.

To be honest... I careless for the bugs... infact I have hyped the Archos for a few months already on other android forums.. But it seems more and more hopeless waiting for Archos to have a GOOD supply in stock. And I don't mean the quality/build/firmware... I'm speaking the amount in stock... I would love love to get one of these, and even considered e-bay... even though it's about 100 dollars more =(

I just want an Archos already, but since the competition out there doesn't seem good, I guess I'll just have to wait for the Acer to come out and blow archos out the water =(

How often do you guys complaining really check Archos.com store? I can't count how many times I've seen these availables. I"ve been able to purchase A43, A70, A101. Those really who want these ...should have been able to grab one of them when available. I mean it's not like I do check every hour. but may every two days or so..or may I'm very lucky... Just yesterday I checked and even the A70 250 was in stock...just now it's out of stock already....I mean people are getting them. You just have to go after and not just waiting.

A month ago when I got my A70, I was also able to order the A70 250 gb then already. But then decided I wanted the cheaper and lighter 8 gb. I you really want this I can sell my A70 GB I'm returing to Archos..for the same price I got it. It's working fine. But I've decided to keep A101.

Archos 43 has not been on sold in EU store.
Archos 70 was a little while, so as Archos 101 16GB.
One of the distributors I am looking for just changed the estimate to 05/01/2010 so it looks very doubtful to get any device before Christmas if you do not have preorder already in.

There's an EU store? I've never seen it, only individual country stores. I've looked at the Archos UK store pretty much every day for ages, and the a101 has never been available on that day.

Both models, 8GB and 16GB, were originally "Coming soon". Since then, at any one time, one of them has been shown as "Coming soon", while the other is shown as (as is the case today) "Out of stock! Next shipment in the first half of January" - although it never actually has been shown as "In stock".

Amazon UK has gone from "Delivery not until after Christmas" to "Currently unavailable.

The (in)famous Simply Electronics seem to be the only ones in the UK who claim to have stocks.

In the UK, Archos traditionally "launch" their flagship models through QVC, the TV shopping channel. I've been wondering if, because of all the returns and bad reviews of both the A5IMT and the A5IT on QVC, where it was obvious that they released the devices far too soon to the "family" market, who expect things to work out of the box, that this time they've released only a few to early adopters in the UK (devs and techy types), while they iron out the bugs and whines.

It's almost impossible to get an A101 in the UK right now. I had one on order from Amazon UK, but you can see from the link above that that order wasn't going to be fulfilled, so I cancelled it. I've now ordered one from Simply Electronics, so I'll find out if their claim to have them in stock is really true.

I'm glad you mentioned the "EU" store, though. There is a danger that, by assumption, this forum (for a French product) is turning into a US forum.

Anyhoo... Good luck with Amazon. I just noticed that Simply Electronics yesterday showed 32 A101s in stock, today Out of Stock. Not hopeful.
