Can Archos support connection to LAN via USB-to-RJ11 adaptor
Can Archos support connection to LAN via USB-to-RJ11 adaptor
I saw few tablet that able to conection to wired LAN 10/100Mb
I maybe able to find such USB-to-RJ11 adaptor in hardware shop. Anyone know?
But I more concern if Archos do give software driver support to this type of connection.
Please advice

RJ-11 is phone connector, RJ45 is Ethernet.
Those Chinese tabs that have eth via usb have usb lan card.

probably not the best way to go. There has to be drivers for something like a USB to ethernet adapter.
wireless router are fairly cheap now a days. That might be an easier solution, so you don't have a cable poking out the side of your device

Yes it should be RJ45, I just saw another post USB Ethernet Adapter? on
"LogiLink Fast Ethernet USB 2.0 to RJ45 Adapter"
As for Chinese tabs, it seem to be those proprietary USB like in Samsung Tab as in
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv298qyZmYk
and then I found the following Dream pad
http://www.nowsupplier.com/touch-screen ... -1541.html
So I still waiting for option 1 to see if it is work on Archos !
and there is driver for it
Yes, thanks for the suggestion on MiFi
I still would like to connect to a 10/100Mb LAN
Maybe a docking station with VGA connection and more USB connectors etc
would be another good choices
Is there any other options out there ?
Thanks for any suggestions and corrections

There will be NO docking station for gen8, so don't expect vga, svideo, usb, eth...
why would you use 10/100 eth when A70/101 (don't know for others gen8) support up to 300MB/s WiFi (802.11 b/g/n)?

and if you do a lot of file transferring, you can always just plug it into your computer via USB, which I believe is 640mb/sOminous wrote:There will be NO docking station for gen8, so don't expect vga, svideo, usb, eth...

This thread is pretty old but one main reason for wanting to use an RJ45 LAN connector is at a hotel that does not offer wireless in the room. The are still some in the US that have wired access only. In that case it is nice to tether but even that becomes a hassle when phone calls come in (at least for my BB Pearl). Another option is a MiFi but then there are extra costs involved which may or may not bother some.

I've seen these a while ago and completely forgot about them. Nice method to take advantage of an LAN only connection with a WiFi only device. And the price is right, too.
I'm going to stick with the MiFi though because I would need (like) connectivity at various locations while traveling without logging on to Boingo.

I've tried two usb wifi dongles.. both didn't work with either usb b or a adapters. Same deal with usb webcam (microsoft 3000). A usb stick & mouse worked in the micro a adapter.. but I have to say the experience is horrible, nothing like using a mouse on a PC. I expected the mouse clicks to be more responsive.. and scrolling to be faster & smoother. I tried a wired & wireless mouse.. same issue.

I also am looking for a USB NIC that works with a70s. The general idea is to be able to use or develop network monitoring and analyzing apps on android. The problem is that a lot of corporate networks either don't have Wifi or have the WLAN segregated from the corporate network (for browsing only). It would be great to use that tablet rather than lugging a laptop around and just connect to the network directly.

I tried a USB tethering app designed for Samsung devices but did not work..
Anyone know of an app that works for Archos (that can share & tether ip/internet over usb?)
