$212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
$212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
My 160GB HD died, Archos said they need to replace PCB??? Price is $212.50 or get a 25% discount coupon or return unrepaired. It is 2 weeks out of warranty, Archos say they only allow a few days leeway. I'm incline to get the 25% discount coupon to use on their Archos store but the Gen 8 devices are not out yet. I'm not really interested in A9, A5A, A7TH, so maybe I can resell the discount code to someone for half price? I can get about $50.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
The discount coupon is good for 30 days (October 20), hopefully Gen8 devices will be released by then.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
You're lucky to get ANY consideration, Archos is very tight. I bought the USB adapter with battery and didn't find out that it only works on the IMT5 until after 30 days. I had pre-purchase emails from tech support saying it was compatible, and they still refused me a refund or even an exchange or credit.
I took my situation to corporate and never got a response. They have no sense of fairness, it's all money, money, money.

Archos store prices are msrp. A5A is still 350 while at Amazon it's 265. 25% discount isn't that good of a deal unless it's a Gen 8 product.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
Ask them how long the 25% coupon is good for? If they say 30 days ask them if they can extend it for you since you need some time to get money together to buy something new. Since the unit was only 2 weeks out of warranty maybe they can give you 90 days on your coupon. That would let the gen 8's come out and give you time to decide if you want one. They may not do it but it never hurts to ask. Good luck.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
Archos said "We cannot. The discount codes are good for 30 days from the day it is received. If, for some reason, after 30 days you are unable to use the discount code, we are
able to regenerate the code for you one time. This would give you a new code good for 30 days."
So 60 days is maximum length which means Nov 20, hopefully Gen 8 Archos 7 will be available for purchase by then.

Archos is sooooooo friggin' greedy!
Why does the code even have to expire?

Well if it's 30 days from when you get it, when do you have to decide by? The longer you can delay that, the longer it will be good for. It looks like your only shot.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
I have to decide by Sept 20. 30 from then is Oct 20. I'm scared that Archos may not even fulfill its promise and extend my coupon. We'll see.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
Yes looks like Archos 70/101 will be released in late October, hopefully Archos will allow me to use the discount coupon on them. I have an iPad, so maybe I'll get the 70 instead of 101. Prices are very competitive too.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
Hmm Maybe I should get Samsung Galaxy Tab instead? Much better than Archos 70 specs wise.
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
The Samsung looks really good, but of course it depends on what you want. If it is strictly for movie watching as a first option, then you should consider the one with the most capacity (hopefully Archos will still make the seven-incher in both Flash and hard disk versions).
Re: $212.50 to repair. 2 weeks out of warranty.
I found out the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be about twice the price of Archos 70 so I think I'll stick with Archos.
