Ship back for replacment
I am starting to think my archos is defective. It is not working at the moment, but there might be some way I can fix it. At this point I am thinking it might just be easier to ship back for a new one. How helpful is the archos support if I were to call them? Would it be a waste of time or are they generally good at walking you through your problems?

Re: Ship back for replacment
I have no experience with Archos support myself, but from what I read on this forum, it's not great.
Ask here first. Chances are the boffins here can help you. But describe your problem in detail, search the forum, search the Wiki.

Hi Screamingrift,
Depends upon who you get to talk with as to the quality of support. Mixed experiences reported here.
Many have reported LONG wait times to talk to a person then good replies. Also, many have reported very long times between emails to Archos support an a reply email. The consensus here has been: If you have the time to wait on hold then it's better to call than email.

Re: Ship back for replacment
I emailed them and they were relatively fast and they offered suggestions, but I couldn't email back to elaborate more on my issues. I would have to get a different person. At this point I am hoping to just get a free exchange and I asked in another post if someone could enlighten me on how that works.

Call them. Emailing will get you a response but it is better to call them. If they decide to replace it you will have to ship it to them after they give you an RMA when they get it they say that it will take 10 to 15 business days to examine the unit and they will ship the fixed unit or more likely a refurbished unit back to you via UPS Ground.
Here is the problems I am going through with Archos about my unit.

Alright that was helpful. Thank you. So I shouldn't bother with archos then. I'll just get a new one through amazon. Do you think they send the new one as fast as they did for you for everyone?

All the reports here indicate Amazon has one of the best records of customer support.

Also, returning the unit under warranty will often get you a repaired unit as a replacement (after a wait of sometimes 6 weeks or more). You should always exchange the unit where you bought it first if that's an option for you, and that's true of any consumer goods, really.

Well guys, I must have been lucky. My A5 60 gig and docking stations remote sensor stated acting up last Friday. I called the help line and got right through to a tech. We could not get the 5 to work so he gave me Two RMA numbers for the 5 and docking station. They both are still under warranty. I tracked them and they signed for them yesterday. I got two emails this morning, they replaced my Archos 5 60 gig with a 5 IT 32 gig. and another ver 6 docking station. and they shipped them today! You cant beat that!! cant wait to try out the new 5 IT

If you're in the 30 day return window for Amazon, absolutely do that without question. Amazon support is the best I've ever dealt with. You'll have a new unit shipped out by the time you get off a 15 minute phone call and probably have it delivered the next day. You'll also get a free label to ship back the defective unit (usually must be done within 3 weeks or so). And as it was stated, you're getting a BRAND NEW unit. Archos will give you a refurb or attempt to refurb the one you already have.
