Better Cases Needed.

So im one of those people that will tend to drop my gadgets if they dont have a case. And the only ones I can find are some leather flip ones. All my other stuff have a rubber / outlining case on them. So anyone know of a case thats out for the Archos 5 IT. Or plans of ones coming out.

I use a padded external harddrive case, it fits perfectly and costs a third the price of an archos case. someone else suggested a cheap psp sleeve.


there was a thread about rubber skins.. not sure what they were called though. try checking 3 or 4 pages back in the forum and you should find it (someone posted a posiive review).

I was in your position before. I wanted a nice case but the leather ones didn't really appeal to me (and there are no silicone/rubber covers Dx). Luckily, Zagg has some invisible shields for the A5A and it's really good. I have no scratches or dents and it adds grip which is also good since i found myself dropping my archos a lot (i have carpet :D).

I have a 16GB A5A by the way.

With the hardrive case you have to take it out to use it but its like having a mini padded laptop bag in which the archos would almost certainly survive being dropped down a flight of stairs (unless you're really unlucky)... you can buy these in any big computer/electronics shop but you will want to try it with your archos to find one that provides a good fit (so you won't want to buy it online). This option would work best with an ssd based archos but there are some pretty chunky hard harddrive cases that might fit the hD model (wouldn't wanna try my luck with the flight of stairs wih a HD archos tho).

As far as the invisible shield by zagg is concerned, you can probably find pictures or reviews/tests of an invisible shield online (I think they make them for all sorts of devices). the shield is molded so it provides full usable access whilst protecting the device but would probably not handle the flight of stairs (unless you're lucky) I have no idea of how thick the skin is nor whether its available for HD archos models.

It all depends on what level of protection you want. I drop my nokia touchscreen phone weekly (its protected by a thick silicone skin) and so far I've had no problems - the rubber is easier to grip and makes it less likely to get knocked off a ledge too. I always keep my phone in my pocket, away from keys or other things though.

I have travelled a bit with the archos and take it on gigs so it needs to survive being bundled with other stuff in a bag which also gets thrown about and crushed (but I have never yet dropped it oncet)... in this case the silicone case would probably not work as well as the padded drive case.

Hope that helps - it really depends on the sort of pain you're likely to inflict on it.

well I just like having the rubber cases cause gives good holding shape to a device. and prevents it from sliding in a table, side of bed things like that.

Question is - will any of these work ok with the batt dock (or even dvr dock)?

I'm using the standard leather case supplied as part of the deal from www.archos.ca/ which seems like a good case but must say I like the look of the silicon cases (particularly the white/clear one linked above) but I think I would be worried about lack of screen protection in case of dropping etc with these type of case.
