Archos 504 - How to decrypt a video file I recorded
I recorded two video files last week. The first one recorded perfectly, the second when you play it in the computer a message comes out "Copy Protected Video File. Can only be played by the original recording device". At no time did I change the settings to protect this file. I need to upload this file to a client and not having any luck. Any suggestions??? Need help asap!!
Re: Archos 504 - How to decrypt a video file I recorded
Hi
tried to use my 605WiFi for simiular project.
Am attempting to transfer old home video files usiung a VHS tape machine outputting to the Archos using DVR properties, this used to work OK, but for some reason am getting similar messages when transferring to PC.
"Copy protected video file"
"Can only be played on original recording device"
I am using Archos becuse of quality (?) of recording....
Anyone cracked this problem yet please?
Cheers

if the video you are recording is macrovision protected (like all old retail vhs tapes and some subscription cable channels), or a retail dvd which also has more sophisticated copyright protections, then the archos will mark it as protected and it will only play on the lcd screen, not on the pc or the tv out. To avoid this you have to pass the input signal through a macrovision stripper before connecting to the archos video in, then the file is recorded without restrictions.
I have not come across a software to strip the protection from completed avis, but then I have not looked for a long time since have equipment to strip all these protections on record if I want to. You would have to google around and see if anyone has come up with something lately.

sorry mate your up the creek with that one, for some really stupid reason the machines sometimes see the macovison thats already stated even though it may be a home video.
I dont think anyone ever solved the issue but if you search though the board you may find something.
