Skyfire D/L crashes my HT!

Post by Maruuk »

Evertime I click on the wiki Skyfire 2.0 Beta (the 2.0 Beta link in the tiny box) my screen fills with gibberish and the HT becomes a brick. I've had to reset it twice. Then when I try a D/L from the Skyfire site, it forces you to, like this little piggy, to go to market which is a dead end for us HT folk. So where can I find a Skyfire D/L that won't immediately trash my HT?

Right click on the DL link and Select "Save the Link as" or "Save Target as" or something like that depending upon your browser. Then you can save your file.

How do you "right click" on the HT? Obviously you mean D/L it on my PC, but I just got through folks telling me I can D/L this right in my HT. Apparently not.

Press and hold the DL link:
  • 1. Eventually a menu appears
    2. Select Save Link
Here comes the nasty part. Instead of saving it as "Skyfire-Android.apk" the standard Browser saves it as Skyfire-Android.html. I see what I can do to stop this, but for now:
  • 1. Open the Files App
    2. Select Internal Memory
    3. Select the download folder
    4. Long Press the Skyfire-Android.html file
    5. Select Rename after the menu appears
    6. Change html to apk
    7. Tap Ok
    8. Tap the Skyfire-Android.apk file
The install starts and your on your way to running SkyFire.

Ahhh I see, tricks of the trade. Well grabbed it on my PC and shuttled it over anyways. Let's see what this baby can do...

Skyfire is a very weird browser. I see how it gets around Flash, it downloads the whole file instead of streaming then reads it in some translation format. But how in hell can you browse in this thing? I just get Videos/Explore/etc. I'm trying to get to CNN but there's no Google or anything. Strange "browser".

I figured out how to access some kind of search in it, wasn't Google. Skyfire will take a while to grok. It could play some of the CNN vids using that full-download process, but others forced you to the Flash download page and wouldn't play, even though they all require Flash. Anyways, Skyfire will clearly provide some video in the HT video desert. Very good news!
