The main problems first-time users encounter are:
1. File formats, people assume that Archos devices will be able to play any types of videos you have without any sort of conversion. While it is true they play quite a few formats, it's by no means 100% of the formats currently in regular use, I'd put it at more around 60%. You must check that your device can either play the formats you need as standard, or at least have an http://www.freearchosplugins.com that can be installed to use it.
2. Battery charging problems. A lot of people buy their Archos device not realising that the device they're buying will be from a foreign provider - and hence an adaptor will be needed. This would be either for your mains electricity, or for the Archos re-charger itself.
3. Another big issue is related to actually loading files onto the Archos device. Now with devices such as Ipods, they have the dedicated Itunes software which makes things somewhat easier. With Archos products though, it's much more a case of having the knowledge to upload what onto your Archos files, and where to put them. Something learned more by experience than anything else.
