Slide Show Freezes Archos 5 - A Solution

I am a photographer and a principal reason for getting my A5 was to be able to display my work out of the office. I downloaded a 390 MB folder containing 145 files (pictures) and tried to run a slide show. I found that the A5 would "freeze" when transitioning from one particular picture to the next, requiring that I shut down and restart. I also noted that when the show was running on other files in the show, it would not display in the original sequence.

I could find no significant difference between the two files in terms of file sizes. However, they were all original files in jpg, running in the 2 to 5 MB range. So, in my PC I then resized all of the pictures for web viewing, resulting in a 20 MB folder containing files in the range of 50 to 350 KB. I redownloaded this to the A5 and it still froze in the transition between the now much smaller file size pictures. I then noticed that the next picture after the two which froze had "slipped by" with an extra high file size (left over from a lot of post-processing in Photoshop) on the order of 1.5MB even after resizing. So, I replaced it with a similar (originally large) file, downsized to 41 KB. Viola! The slide show ran perfectly. Apparently the slideshow software looks ahead at "Z" even when transitioning from "X" to "Y" and can be paralyzed at the significant difference in file sizes.

when are the pixel to your picture ?
3000x1904 for exemple is so big divising per 2 X and Y, but your problem percist divising per 1.5. 1600X900 is perfect for a Archos screen

reduce the quality with photophop is not interesing lol but big quality and small pixel is good

Further to this issue for the knowledge base: I experienced this freezing again on a different folder but this time the "large" file causing the problem was well down in the list. It was the same image that caused the earlier freezeup. It is an old image (in digital camera software chronology), a panoramic derived from other images (that's not the problem; I can display other panoramics) and I think there must be some info in the metadata that is causing my A5 to freak out. There are no reported differences when I look at the EXIF data but, when I removed the image, all was well. I don't think it's the image size (1.511 MB). I think there was some wierdness in the tags. All is well, again.
