igo tip for AV500

Post by genesis »

My apologies if this topic already exists, I used the search option for this section and had no luck. I was using a B07 iGo tip for my AV500 but the cord got chewed up. I know the B tips are now discontinued but on the iGo site they don't have a new compatible tip listed. I have emailed them twice no and gotten no response. Does anybody know if there is a new tip that works with my model? Thanks.

I was suprised to see they were no longer available at Radio Shack, but while in the store I found a different house brand that worked. They had sample plugs hanging on the wall that you could try plugging into your device to see if it fit. If I could remember the sizeing number I'd tell you, but it's been a couple of weeks now.

Glad to help. I needed one myself because I installed an auxilliary input module in my car that uses the stock CD changer inputs on the back of the radio. It has a 5 volt power lead as well, but it was made to fit XM's so it was too small. Now I have a dedicated dock in the car for my unit with power and inputs, so no more cigar lighter charger and no more cassette adapter.

Well, I went to my local Radio Shack and unfortunately the employees had no clue how to help me. They kept pointing me to the iGo B tips even though I repeatedly stated I was looking for the house brand alternative. With Radio Shack, you either get somebody who knows the store and it's products, or you wind up with people who haven't got a clue how to help you if they can't google it. Is there any way you can tell me what the brand is called? Or even scan a pic of it and post it? The guy kept saying the sizing tip on the wall wasn't an actual tip , that it only pointed out what kind i needed :/

Yeah, I feel your pain. I can remember when they hired people who new something about electronics and you could go to the store and actually get help from someone who knew what you were talking about. Back in the 80's I went for an interview and failed miserably because I didn't try to sell an additional service plan, and it was clear to me that corporate had taken a different direction. Back then it was cheap computers and stereos. Nowadays all they want is someone who knows cellphone service plans. Every now and then you run into a store that is still staffed by old "HAM" radio enthusiasts, then your in luck. Ran into one in Hornell, NY back in 05' while on the road and I wish it was closer to home.
Anyway the brand was "Enercell Adaptaplug" and unfortunately there all "Ipody" white. Luckily, the guy I was talking to just happened to be HAM guy doing a temporary side job and he actually sold me a black one out of a "mysteriously open" car charger package. I guess I was lucky that day.

Hello again! Well I finally made it to Radio Shack and this time i got a lady who knew her stuff. I told her that I was in touch with a person online who was using the Enercell brand and she asked to to ask you the catalogue # on the back of the adapter and the color of the plug (the yellow B tip seems to fit, is that what you're using?). The catalogue # is right on the back of the adapter, once I have that I'll be in business!

As I said, the one I have is a black one out of a "mysteriously open" car charger set that is just like the white enercell one, so I don't have the one with stock number on it. Just take the unit with you when you go into Radio Shack. Even if they don't have the samples that you can "test plug" into it hanging next to the display, the Enercell packages are made to open and close easy enough so she can help you find the one that fits.
