Archos 3 and DVR files from the 605wifi
Can someone please try playing a DVR recorded file on the Archos 3 both on the unit and hooked up to a TV with the TV out cables. Just considering picking one of these units up for when I'm away from home and wanting access to my media.
Additionally what is the resolution for the TV out on the 3?
A good % of what I have is AVI so is there an issue with resolution and playback as well?

I didn't test video resolution and bitrates support for AVI on it yet, I don't have one. I don't know for sure if anyone else has done reliable tests to see if most DivX and XviD movies, tv shows and DVR Station recordings can play without re-encoding.

anyone try this yet
Re: Archos 3 and DVR flies from the 605wifi
I just copied a 4 minute recording that I got from my 605 via the DVR and it played, but there was no audio. I'll try another one tomorrow if I have time, but I have no idea how we are supposed to connect the 3 to a TV. There is nothing in the manual about that, and also the only cables supplied are the earbuds and mini USB. I thought I read somewhere it had TV out capability, but it seems that was just a myth.

Please try again and let me know how you make out. I think the TV out cables are an extra item to be purchased in addition to the 3.

I copied a few files recorded with a 605 and a 5 and no audio on any of them. The video looks pretty good, just stutters a bit though.

Just in case does the video/audio work on your other devices? Looks like we found a bug on the A3?
Re: Archos 3 and DVR flies from the 605wifi
They all work fine on my 5, audio and video is good, but I sold my 605 last year so don't know about that.

Then this is a bug and I have started a new thread to let Archos know about it. Thanks for trying this out!

Archos 605 WiFi records audio in WAV PCM audio format. I guess the Archos 3 Vision does not play that codec back in videos..
You can quickly convert the audio to Mp3 using a computer though without having to re-encode the whole video but only converting the audio.
There is I think also two settings for audio quality in video recordings on the 605 WiFi, high quality WAV and WAV ADPCM at lower bitrate and lower quality. Maybe one of them works.

It would be nice to see Archos support there own AVI recordings on the 3 as it just isn`t convenient to have to convert anything even if it is fast.

Yup, we'd need to test and check if WAV PCM or ADPCM is supported for videos or if it could be supported in a firmware update.goldenhopper wrote:It would be nice to see Archos support there own AVI recordings on the 3 as it just isn`t convenient to have to convert anything even if it is fast.

If you can't play DVR recorded files and it isn't possible to fix in the firmware then Archos really dropped the ball here. What were they thinking?
