704 wifi firmware downgrade

I'm using the latest firmware 1.7.53 for my archos 704 wifi but lately I am getting errors when I start up the unit
"recovery code 4 and asking about repair disk or format "
so I reinstall firmware and everything work fine for a couple of hours and then this message appears again asking me to repair etc.
I would like to downgrade the firmware to see if this makes any differents but cannot no matter what combination button press etc.

does anyone know how to downgrade this ...or can it be done ?
