"File is damaged or incomplete"

Post by shirleywhite »

Hi all. I upgraded from av500 to a 605 (4gb) because I thought I could play flv files without any kind of conversion etc. I try to play videos but get the " damaged or incomplete" message. Is this something to do with Flash8 or Flash 9 versions??(Pardon my ignorance!) I upgraded my 605 to latest firmware which I thought allowed the playing of flash videos. (Incidently I also have both the podcast and cinema plugins too!)

Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

You should not have to convert .flv files to another format. Maybe it's the frame rate of the videos you're trying to watch (could be too high). Most flash players I have experience with work well at ten or twelve fps, even fifteen fps would be pushing it as for continuous playback.
It's the same deal as .swf files by the way- no rewind/fast forward etc.- just play/pause.

edit: oops- I was wrong about the video controls for .flv's. They respond to rew & ff buttons like they're supposed to.

Thanks for replying matchbox. I wondered if I could check framerates by pressing "info" for the flv's which dont play. They seem to come up as Type=flv. Video=vp6 Resolution=0x0 Bitrate=unknown. There's then stuff about audio is mp3 etc.

They all play fine on my desktop computer using Media Player Classic. But not on my 605. (Incidently - they are all stored on an sd card rather than main memory - when I insert the card I tend to say "no" to the "do you want to consolidate into arclibrary"? I dont suppose this makes any difference?!) I've tried playing by tapping in "video" list as well as through File Management etc - still get the "file damaged/incomplete" message!! Thanks anyway.

Try a complete shutdown by holding the on/off button until you get the message shutting down and then start it up again. Most of the time this will fix the problem with not being able to play flv.

.flv do work however some settings for it don't. I'm not sure exactly what setting does it, but i've put a few .flv files on my archos and all but one played I checked the info using FLVplayer (it's a program) and there were a few differences. It wasn't a big deal to me so I didn't try to find out what exactly did it. But something with the file is making it not work.
