Where are my Stage6 downloads ??

Post by Paullyfuzz »

Its easy enough to download from Stage6, you just press the big download icon on the vid you wish to download, however, when i do this everything goes swimmingly until i then try to find where the downloads are. I look under Divx downloads, but theres nothing there. Where are they, or havent they actually downloaded ?

Cheers

Stage 6 Bye-Bye

Post by Andy W »

Stage 6 will be switched off tomorrow (Feb 28th 2008.) Too bad as it was a great site to upload full 1080p HD video and likewise download content for playing on Sony PS3 in full DivX 1920x1080 HD and lesser HD formats etc....although sadly STILL not Archos Gen 5's as HD Plug-in support is still not available despite being previously promised from Archos (I'm not surprised!) :( .... will be Gen 6 I bet!

Stage 6 was launched to demonstrate the technical benefits of the DivX codec and now it's all over the web it's basically done it's job...that and the fact that it costs a fortune to host all those HD videos and ripped films/TV series for anyone to download for free if they so wished. I think their mistake was to not police the content as much as sites like YouTube so in recent months we've seen an explosion in weird stuff (to me) like Japanese TV shows and full HD videos of gameplay etc. as well as outright copyright infringing HD and Std Def rips of films and music videos which basically were just waiting for the lawyers to knock on DivX Incs door. In fact DivX Inc have been trying to sell Stage 6 since last summer but buyers were no doubt put off by both the cost of hosting such huge files and legal issues of the Stage 6 model.

It was good while it lasted but now it's (almost) gone! Others are trying to do the HQ video hosting thing now anyway. Link to one better ones (of the 40-50 currently around) below, although sadly they currently only support 720p HD, not the higher resolutions that Stage 6 offered.
