Just got delivery of the 604 and overall extremely pleased.
One big gripe though is the speaker......very quiet and poor quality. Shame.
My 604
Okay....having played over the weekend:
1) Build quality v good (8.5/10) compared to the AV700 which I had which didn't seem that good.
2) Screen quality excellent (10/10) again compared to AV700 which was pants.
3) Connections not so good (6/10), the main charger cable has a funny clip in thing which I never feel I am removing correctly. Also, no mains charger, which is a PITArse.
4)In built speaker is crap (3/10), luckily for me I shouldn't be using it too much.
5) Accessories, not so good. But I understand it keeps the price down, which is good. So (6/10). I will be intreagued by another post here to see if the DV out cable works in the headphone socket. Also would have liked a case that opens up, rather than just a bag.
6)Software, so so. Had games on Av700.....dunno why not here ? Surely it is a way for Archos to make more money ? (5/10)
How does this sound.....am I being picky ?
By the way, photo thumbs is quite good too.
What I want to know, is how you connect a mass media device like a digi camera to it to transfer photos.....anyone guide me ? (probably need another cable eh ?)

Yes, to use the USB Host feature to transfer photos from a camera you need one of this two accesories:
- Docking Adapter (~29,99$)
- DVR Station (~99.99$)
With the first you also can fast charge the battery, with the second you can do everything (like with the old TV Pod) more info on: www.archos.com

I'm not sure what everyone is expecting with regards to the built-in speaker on the 504 and 604 (I presently own one of each). It admit that it could be better, but it seems to be more than adequate for its intended use.
The only reason that I use the built-in speaker is for watching recorded TV programs and normally I watch them in a fairly quiet room. If there is a lot of noise around, it is admitedly too quiet by itself. But if you are on a plane or a bus, I don't know of any media players (including laptops) that would be loud enough; most likely you would be using headphones in this situation anyway.
As for the quality of the sound, it is fine for dialog; there is no problem understanding dialog, etc. I don't think that the designers had in mind that anyone would use the built-in speaker for music. Given the speakers INTENDED use, I would personally give it a 7.5 out of 10.
