Xbox thru DVR station using component cables

Post by RonanC »

Hi guys,

Just a quick question. I usually run my Xbox (original, not 360) or PS2 thru the DVR station into my tube telly in my room, and it works beautifully so that I dont have to be messing changing around the scart leads. Yesterday I tried running the same setup into my Samsung SyncMaster pc monitor/tv. It works grand if I use the same setup as my tv (scart input) but the picture is rubbish (I think this is an issue with the monitor; its a great monitor but a shocking tv). So I decided Id get a component to component cable and see if that improved the quality. Now when I try to view the Xbox it comes out black and white. No setting on the monitor or 605 seems to change this. Is this normal expected behaviour, ie, the fact that I am running an Xbox with 480i output into a HD input?

Sorry, I guess it wasnt such a quick question afterall! :p

I don,t get it it you want to record the video of the xbox tru the dvr station so you can watch it in the archos ?
or see it just in the tv
I got the dvr and so far it record any video along is not coming protectec like a dvd player so in the xbox the game ouput in not protecte bur if you oplay dvd movie it will get black video hoever the dvd station don,t have hd input only s-video and compositte de hd is only for ouput from the archos to the tv
for the hd contend that you have in there like vob files 5.1 sound with the cinema plug in
try using the yellow cable of the xbox or buy the s-video cable
how ever i never try to do the myself but a going to try in the future
to record the videos the i got from xboxlive market place that only play in the console were you download it so can pass the to archos
I hope this help
p.s. there a filter in line that cost like 15.00 that remove the protection i used for dvd player to dvd player/writer and it gime good copies but that is in the past .

If I understand your post correctly, you have scart cable from Xbox to Archos and then compenent cable from Archos to TV? As I recall both the input and output cables on the Archos have to be the same type to reatin all the color for the videos. If the cables are different then black and white videos result.

Sae yeah thats the way I have it set up alright. Its the red-white-yellow scart cables from the Xbox into the DVR station and then the blue-green-red-yellow-red-white component cable from the DVR station to the TV. I figured it was something like that but I just wanted to make sure! I presume if I buy a PS3 or an Xbox 360 they have blue-green-red-yellow-red-white output yeah?

I dont want to record the xbox, I just want to have it running thru the DVR station so that I dont have to keep unplugging the DVR station from the telly whenever I want to play the xbox, and visa versa. It works fine when I use the scart output from the DVR station, just not when I use a component output. I presume that the scart in - component out combination is causing the issue.

You are correct.

I live in the US, so I don't have SCART connectors, but I have an S-video input to my DVR station from my cable box with component cables out to my TV and I get the same thing - Black and White output

The problem too is that there is no component input on the DVR - only component output, which limits your options for color video feed-thru. The input and output cables MUST be the same to achieve this.

This can't be rocket science, but it is truly a short comming of the DVR station IMO; I do see however that the TV+ doesn't seem to have limited input/output options - so maybe the 606 DVR (if there is one) won't be so semi-functional. :?
