I think DishNetwork would have some trouble with their content providers if they allowed that. It would be way too easy to make copies of copyrighted material. I know, it is easy enough anyway but this would make it too easy.

Well that sounds a little odd to me. They don't allow you to copy copyrighted material to the 605 in the first place, and ANY of the material can be recorded directly from the dish outputs. Being able to move and play non-digitially-copyrighted material doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to me...

Still Waiting for TS

Post by savagemyth »

This is my second post here in this thread.

I bought a 605 wifi 160g in February from Archos, downloaded and installed the DishNetwork plugin. It worked flawlessly. That is, until the unit froze and the drive made only a buzzing noise.

After an RMA and 3 week wait for a replacement, I got the new unit, with new codes and serial number, of course.

Called TS to get new replacements for my old MPEG and Browser plugins, which he was very polite and sent them to me immediately while I was on the phone with him at Archos. Those work great.

The Dishnetwork plugin would not work, saying "Bad Plugin".

So called TS again to get a replacement issued.

The lady said i'd have to email Archos to do this, since their software is set to only let one registered plugin work per DN box.

That was over a month ago.

The last message included the new info that "Archos is resetting it's database so that more than one plugin can be downloaded by each user."

Hilarity.

Here's a transcript of the emails, with all the foot dragging and bullshit. Curious what response i'll get for this last one:

savagemyth,

Once you plugin has been reset you will be contacted. Unfortunately, with this
plugin it does, as previously mentioned, take 1-2 business days because this
reset is on a corporate level and they are not in on the weekends.

If it's not going to be expedient to reissue this plugin with my new unit, would it

be possible to have my unit programmed with the old unit id numbers, etc.? This

plugin is the most important thing for me. Getting really disappointed and starting

to wonder if I'll have to go on ebay and buy a pocketdish used or sell this one or

what....

Paul Lothary,

Unfortunately, that is not possible, if you haven't received your plugin yet,
I will gladly send this up again and get this pushed through as quickly as
possible.

savagemyth,

I have sent this information to a manager in that department. We have
restructured our plugin data base. You as the customer are now allowed to
download more then one dish network plugin. We are sorry for the delay but
this change took some time. I will have your new plugin as soon as possible.

Thank you,

If we can d/l more than one plugin, then I should be able to download it myself?
How long is As soon as possible?
By Archos-time, 24-48 hours = 6-8 weeks.

In my world, As soon as possible = Today or first thing Tomorrow, no later.
Does that mean in Archos-time that ASAP = 4-5 weeks?

Would just like some clarification.
Or at least a straight answer, like:

"We're sorry, but the guy who runs that department is a pudwhacker, but he's doing

the owner's daughter, so my hands are tied. I'll see if I can hack in to his user

and get the plugin you requested"

Or

"We're sorry, but the woman in charge of that department quit and took her password

with her. We're waiting for management to ok the purchase order to have an outside

IT come in and clear out the password to get your plugin, in addition to payroll

records. Thank you for your patience."

Or

"We're sorry, Archos is bankrupt and has laid off 90% of our workforce personnel

that aren't from India until we can find someone dumb enough to buy this floundering

enterprise. Please give up on your plugin and buy a Zune instead."

Or just make up something, but at least give me a concise timeline on when I can

expect action.

Thanks,

Paul Lothary

You can see how frustrating dealing with Archos TS is now.

Well, hopefully it is working for you now.....

I finally got it to work yesterday. I think they have fixed the server issue. I am the OP and I can tell you that I was pretty frustrated by the wait but at least it is working now. I went to the site and created a new plugin yesterday and now all is good.

Finally.

Hehe...I had to pick on Ghost Hunters. I just can't figure out why every show about ghost hunting has to be campy, and the cast REALLY goofy. Regardless of whether you believe in ghosts or not, the show would be more credible if the cast actually acted credible. The same goes for shows about UFOs...

Oh well...enjoy. :)

Ghost Hunters

Post by savagemyth »

Yeah, that's the thing - In the past there's been dozens of 'serious' shows with "professional parapsychologists" (if there is such a thing) that have bombed because it wasn't entertaining to watch a bunch of dweebs with their little meters and nutty psychics doing their thing. Ah well, good entertainment at least with this one.
