at fist I just want it for the hardware i aways been a Microsoft fan so i never give mac i try, but now after years with xp and the disappointment of vista i
think is time to try something else and since mac pc.s run better with leopard
os ,i am going to try my best to do all i do in xp in mac so i dont have to keep going back and forward but to do that i going to need new versions of my software like anydvd for removing copy protection from dvds, nero
and learn about mac os use ,i am downloading two ibook on mac

well after one week in my new my macbook pro on mac os 10.5 and vista ultimate running alone in boot camp partition and tru WMware fusion as a guest of mac ,well there not a big difference in using mac or windows for encoding however with mac using Handbrake that happen to be the only one i got at the moment for encoding from dvd in mac , it do do it a bit faster but no enough to say that mac do it a lot faster but it do use less power from the cpu do the same thing in vista that still got to 100% cpu even on normal
then the version or Handbrake for mac if far superior that the window one it more advance features and don,t need dvd protection software
now by using fusion to run both at the same time and give one core to mac
and one to vista and and divide the ram on two ,2g for each it do very good multiple converting job . when you got hundreds of dvds to do it going to take a long time to do but with this setup i thing i can catch up ,this laptop quality is like nothing i see before , in can,t figure out how the put so much power in such tiny space and still good battery life and the only lcd that is full visible in sun light not reflective and on vista it handle games the a toshiba gaming laptop of a friend can't handle at full seatings my do
? can I upload my movies to rapid share or mega upload and link the downloads without getting any trouble ? in that way archos users can get some free stuff to compensate for the big money you pay for the archos ,
all the accessory's and plug ins that keep coming without mercy

OS is not the main factor in encoding.

The key factros are:
1. Processor Speed
2. Hard Drive Speed 10K RPM is best 7200 RPM ok
3. Software but most of them are doing a good job. Make sure your software support duo process that's where the software come into play.

Example: a Core 2 Duo is faster than a Duo Core. Duo Core will be faster than any machine before Duo Core.

Ram almost has no effect unless you only has 512MB ram on XP or 1GB on Vista. Because all the encoding are run on your Hard Drive.

The hard drive speed doesn't matter since the bottleneck is the CPU.
You'll get the same results with the 10K RPM and 5400RPM.

Ultimately it's down to
a) the processors you have available (CPU, Math, etc)
AND
b) what processors and processor features does the encoding software uses, i.e. if you have multiple processors but the software can handle only 1 thread... then the multiple processors have little to no effect.

ALSO - the OS counts as well!
If you're using an OS that takes advantage of multiple-processors then you may simultaneous encodings even if your encoder does not support multiple processors.

Does anyone know which software is capable of taking advantage of multiple processers - quads are coming down in price and I use clonedvd mobile but there is no mention of multiple processer support on their website

ok I just dug a little deeper and answered my own question - clonedvd mobile version history has this -

DVDRIPER PRO JESTERWARE AND VIDEOCONVERTER take full avantage of dual or quad procesors , I hear from anoder post somebody say that hes 4 core 3.plus a arm and a leg GHZ procesor can do a whole 1.30 min in 15min my can do like two in a hour 1 or two , I think I can live with that
buy a whole tower pc just for that to save some time it be stupip ,however upgrade the one that the you got all ready for a resonable price is ok now the 10k HHD are not relyable stic to the 7.2k ones the don,t do any big notable diference I do it in 5.4.k or 7.2k and there no diference because is a the amound of data coming to the hhd is not enough to stress the hhd to the poin it can't keep up .but that is in my case
