704 with a gen 5 dock ??
704 with a gen 5 dock ??
I'm selling my 605. Getting a 704.
Will my old gen5 dvdr station work with my new 704 ? or do I need to get an old gen 4 station ?
One thing I never record off the tv, but I do like to connect the dvr station to a tv to display stuff I've transferred to my archos.
any help would be appreciatted.

If you do not want to record from tv, then get the av lead, I have the 704 and it can like most Archos units be fussy

Quetions: Why ??grayhm wrote:I'm selling my 605. Getting a 704.
I have had my 704 for a year now (almost) and it does everything it says on the tin, but I know other people who have had problems with theirs.
I know the 605 is as buggy as the 704, if not more so, but there probably won't be any future support for GEN4 units in the future, whereas the GEN5 should be supported for another 3 months at least
Good lick finding a 704 as they are rather scarce.
The 704TV seems to be better than the 704WiFi, but it doesn't do WiFi.
Its just that I've had older archos's in the past, but never tried one with a large screen before.Quetions: Why ??
Starting to dread it know though
After reading the various comments. But if the worst comes to the worst, I'll hang to my 605, and if the 704 really is that bad, I will sell it on through Ebay. I got it cheap anyway
Thanks to everyone(well nearly everone) for there advice.
On a pretty tight budget.Why not a 705 then ??
Managed to get the 704wifi in mint condition for £140. Not sure but I think the 705 even second hand is about a £100 or so more. Don't really want to pay over £240 for one though.
Suppose I could sell both 704 and 605 and go for it. I'll see how the 704 pans out
all i would say is that the 704 seems to have the same bugs as the other units on here 604 etc, My main gripe was lack of support for the 704 when it first came out and teh fact that after about two months ownership teh 705 was due out, looking at the build quality of the 705 though i think you have made the right choice with the 704.
Seeming as you do not want to record from the tv tehn i cannot see you having any problems, dont forget our one and only firmware upgrade was made avaliable a few months back.
At the beginning of ownership i would have rated the 704 7 0r 8 out of 10 due to the problems.
Now though after sussing out work arounds for a the recording bug i would give it 9 out of 10, If you do decide to record anything I would suggest any recordings about an hour long to use the highest bit rate, anything over an hour and a half reduce the bit rate to the next level down, anything over 2 hrs reduce the bit rate further, that way you should be ok.
Lets us know your opinion on the 704, if you get the av lead you may notice a lower level of volume on your tv if you watch a 5.1 surround sound film but overall i do not think you will have any complaints

I've had my 704TV since QVC first sold them over a year ago. In that time I have had no trouble when recording from the built in Freeview tuner or with playback of those files. I have had a few problems when recording through the gen 4 docking station. Recording direct from DVD works perfectly but when recording from other sources i.e. freeview recorder or direct from the TV, the picture recorded seems to be less sharp than the original source.
Good link ! Thank you for share it !Bainsyboy wrote:If you do not want to record from tv, then get the av lead, I have the 704 and it can like most Archos units be fussy
